BOSTON — A Boston police officer has been arrested on child pornography charges.

Officer Joe Martinez was arrested by the Norwood Police Department, Thursday. Martinez is being charged with possession of child pornography, posing a child under 18 for nude photos, and secret sex surveillance of a nude person under 18, according to a release issued by the Boston Police department.

“The alleged behavior committed by this Boston Police Officer is disturbing. The Boston Police Department will continue to hold its officers to the highest standards,” Superintendent-in-Chief Gregory Long said in a statement.

Boston Police say that Martinez has been an officer with the department since 2008. Martinez has been placed on administrative leave. He faced a judge Friday morning.

Prosecutors say Martinez bought a remote spy camera online and installed it in a bathroom where that young girl would regularly shower. “The defendant admitted he had in fact set the camera up when asked why the defendant replied quote, I don’t know, I have a problem. I have all these thoughts in my head,” said Norfolk County Assistant District Attorney Dan Kaufman

“Norwood police also observed photoshopped images, images that had the defendant’s face and relative’s children’s face superimposed on people having sex,” said Kaufman.

Boston Police say their Bureau of Professional Standards will work with the Norwood Police Department and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office during the investigation.

The judge initially set bail at $10.000. It was lowered to $5,000 later in the day on Friday along with orders to stay away from the alleged victim and other children.

Martinez will be back in court on May 3 and must wear a GPS monitor if he makes bail.
