BOSTON — Boston Police are investigating brazen burglaries at two separate salons on Newbury Street.

Boston 25 News obtained surveillance video of both crimes that happened Sunday night after 10 p.m.

A hooded female suspect is first seen breaking into Street Salon and Barber Shop at 164 Newbury St.

The owner told Boston 25 News that the crook stole cash, electronics, products and expensive styling tools.

“She took a lot of things. The total is over $4,000,” said Seng Ackhasone, owner of Street Salon and Barber Shop. “I’m just so sad.”

Ackhasone immigrated to the United States from Laos ten years ago. He finally achieved his dream of opening a salon in January 2020.

“I feel so bad, only me in America. I don’t have any family here. I came here and saved my money,” said Ackhasone. “This is a dangerous woman!”

The thief wasn’t finished after ransacking Ackhasone’s salon.

Just minutes later, surveillance footage shows her bursting into Hair Bella on the third floor of the same building.

The owner there said the security alarm immediately activated and alerted her.

“I was like, oh my God! We’re being robbed,” said Arline Murray, owner of Hair Bella. “It’s a good thing the alarm went off because she ran and wasn’t able to take any products.”

Murray just took over as owner of the salon she’s worked at for 45 years back in July 2020.

She said it’s been difficult to keep the business afloat as it is.

“It’s been a struggle,” explained Murray. “I’m trying to get through it. Just add it to another thing on the list that’s going on this year.”

Boston Police are actively investigating both burglaries and working to identify the suspect at large.

A police spokesperson told Boston 25 News that crimes involving businesses in the Back Bay commercial district are down in 2021.

According to police, there have been 12 commercial break-ins in the area so far this year compared to 21 at this time last year.
