BOSTON — A second Boston city councilor announced Thursday that she will run for mayor.

Andrea Campbell said she’s running on a platform of equity in health care, jobs and criminal justice.

“In this profound moment of reckoning for our country and our city, as people rise up to demand change, Boston needs leadership that not only understands, but has lived the systemic inequities facing our residents every day,” Campbell said in her announcement. “I’m running for Mayor to be that leader, to bring our city together to confront inequities head-on, and finally make Boston a City that works for everyone.”

City Councilor Michelle Wu announced her mayoral campaign earlier this month. Incumbent Mayor Marty Walsh has not formally announced that he intends to seek another term.

Campbell, 38, is a Boston native who attended Princeton University and UCLA Law School, and served as deputy legal counsel to former Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick.

She represents a district largely made up of Mattapan and Dorchester but also includes parts of Roslindale and Jamaica Plain.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
