Boston brimming with excitement as potential Sox clincher looms on Marathon Monday

BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox needed 13 innings to beat the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 3, which was fine because fans have had a lot of pent-up energy over the last 18 months.

After beating the New York Yankees in a wild-card game, the Sox have the chance to close out Tampa Bay Monday night. Fans say the city feels alive again.

“A lot of people didn’t think the Red Sox would make it to this time,” said corporate chef of Cask ‘n Flagon Jimmy Regalado. “Just last Tuesday, we are working until 2 a.m., and it’s so crazy.”

Lots of diehard fans turned out to Fenway Monday. And yes, they have seen playoff runs and championships before. But they would love to see one again.

And, not surprisingly, the fans we spoke with, even after this wild rollercoaster of a season, all think the Red Sox got this one tonight.

“Not really because I can see the great team that he’s put together, Chaim Bloom, and I just really appreciate what he’s doing and hopefully we can make it to the World Series this year,” said Timmy Sterling, a Sox fan, when asked if he was surprised to see the Sox do so well thus far in the postseason.

“So tonight, I’m ready for a win. Absolutely. It’s time to send Tampa Bay home,” said Marquis Green, another Red Sox diehard. “You know, with all due respect, love you guys and see you next year. Time to send you guys home tonight man.”

“I think they are going to win the game again tonight,” said Sox fan Karen Russel. “But I think it’s going to be just as close as it was last night. And I think someone is going to hit a homerun to end it […] let’s do it.”

The businesses feel it and so do the runners, even those from out of town like Atavia Grubaugh, who came in from Denver.
