Chairs at Celebrity Cuts and In the Cut barbershop in Boston were buzzing in more ways than one Wednesday. Families took advantage of an offer from the Boston barbershops to get their hair cut for free to celebrate the new school year.

It was the barbershops’ fifth annual back to school event. In addition to the haircuts, school supplies are also distributed. Barbers and parents alike expressed their appreciation for the event.

“It’s a good way [to start the school year],” Celebrity Cuts barber Peter Robinson told Boston Photojournalist Bob Murdock. “Giving back to the community.”

“It’s very important for us to give back,” said parent Leon Dawkins. “It’s just in our nature. To share with the kids because they’re the future. We have to teach them that you have to give back something.”

The day had those in the chairs already planning their next ‘do.

“I’m gonna ask my dad if I can get a mohawk,” one child said.
