MILTON, Mass. — The body of a missing swimmer has been recovered after a search at Houghton’s Pond in Milton, the Milton Fire Chief has confirmed. Emergency crews were searching for a man who had been missing since approximately 6:30 p.m., state police said. His body was recovered shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday.
That man has only been identified as a 39-year-old Quincy man who was at the pond with his son. His name has not been released.
Mass State Police said that the man had entered the pond to retrieve a soccer ball that had gone into the water and did not surface after going underwater once he passed the buoy rope.
The search was conducted by patrols and detectives from the Massachusetts State Police and its Marine Unit and Dive Team, and Milton police and firefighters.
Thursday’s drowning was the third and latest drowning to happen in the region in the past two weeks. On Wednesday night, a 16-year-old boy died after police said he drowned in a pond in Framingham. And on May 15, two boys, ages 12 and 13, drowned in a pond at D.W. Field Park in Brockton.
