While back-to-schools photos may be a fun social media trend, it can often expose personal data about the child and family. In order to better protect loved ones, the Better Business Bureau released tips to protect your identity.
Often times, back-to-school photos are taken next to a board displaying the child’s age and height. According to the BBB, parents should avoid sharing such personal info.
Back-to-school photos should also never display where the child is going to school. Scammers can use the info to commit identify theft or to even earn the child’s trust.
Parents should also double check their social media’s privacy settings and ensure that the photos aren’t public.
Finally, be on the watch for phony friends request. According to the BBB, don’t accept friend requests from strangers and to even make sure that a request from a friend isn’t an imposter.
