NEW ENGLAND — Summer is here, and what screams summer more than a Hot Dog? A classic American food, the United States has some of the best sausage and bun creations you’ll ever taste.

Whether you like chili cheese, Coney, a Chicago dog, or just a plain classic, this food is a go-to at any summer BBQ.

LoveFood tracked down the best hot dog joint in every U.S state to make it a little easier to find your favorite food on a summer road trip.

Connecticut: Riley’s Hot Dog & Burger Gourmet, New Britain

Riley’s Hot Dog & Burger Gourmet has an extensive hot dog menu, and all of them have rave reviews. According to loveFOOD, two dogs highlight the menu. The classic chili cheese dog with Riley’s meat sauce, Cheddar sauce, and onions, and the Loco Taco Dog with seasoned minced beef, taco sauce, lettuce, tomato, and nacho chips.

Maine: Simones’ Hot Dog Stand, Lewiston

Simones’ Hot Dog Stand is known for the best steamed hot dogs in the world, according to its customers. The bright red sausages come in a split-top bun, lobster roll-style. From there you can choose what topping you put on it and the staff serves them up fresh.

Massachusetts: Casey’s Diner, Natick

Casey’s is a 10-stool dining car that has been serving customers since 1922. “Locals and visitors alike love the spot and recommend the consistently good “all around” hot dog, with relish, onions, and mustard.

New Hampshire: Gilley’s, Portsmouth

Gilley’s was opened in 1912 and is a tiny retro diner within an old tram cart, serving burgers, hot dogs, and poutine. Gilley’s has won many local awards for their dogs and comes alive late at night when hungry customers come after some time out.

Rhode Island: Olneyville New York System, Providence

Award-winning Olneyville New York System has locations in Providence and Cranston and is a must-try spot. The classic hot wiener topping is celery salt, mustard, onions, and meat sauce, and the Olyneyville wiener sauce is legendary, according to loveFOOD.

Vermont: Handy’s Lunch, Burlington

Open since 1945, this local diner is great place for huge breakfasts and top-notch sandwiches. Handy’s Lunch is also known for their famous hot dog – The Texas Hot Dog. The sausage is served topped with yellow mustard, homemade chili, and chopped red onions, and customers say it’s perfect.
