An approaching arctic front is bringing wind chills as low as 40-below zero to Massachusetts this weekend and that dangerously cold airmass could wreak havoc on homes across the region.

Pipes freezing as temperatures plummet will be of chief concern for homeowners.

If a frozen pipe bursts, not only will you have a disastrous mess on your hands, but it can also cause serious damage to your home.

Mike Giordano, of Giordano’s Plumbing in Attleboro, warned of wind gusts pushing the frigid air through cracks and crevices, leading to lower room temperatures and cold walls.

“The drafts coming through the walls will actually freeze the pipes,” Giordano said.

So, what steps can homeowners take to fully prepare for the bitter blast? In the video above, Giordano shares a number of important tips on how to prevent and thaw frozen pipes.
