Bathroom exhaust fan sparks raging Dighton attic fire, officials say (Dighton Fire Department)

DIGHTON, Mass. — A faulty bathroom exhaust fan appears to be the cause of a raging attic fire in Dighton Monday night, officials say

Firefighters responded to a home on Rose Terrace shortly before 10:00 p.m. to find flames leaping from the attic, the Dighton Fire Department said.

All residents of the single-family home had evacuated by the time fire crews arrived.

It took firefighters around a half hour to get the fire under control.

“At this time, we believe the fire was started by a bathroom exhaust fan,” Dighton Fire Chief Christopher Maguy said. “The whole back half of the roof burnt through, but the fire was mostly contained to attic spaces.”

Fire crews braved extremely low temperatures and icy roads as they battled the blaze.

“Our crews made a quick entry and knocked down the bulk of the fire in a relatively quick time,” Chief Maguy said.

The fire remains under investigation by the Dighton Fire Department, Dighton Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal’s Office.=
