The blizzard beats Cape Cod with wicked winds

SANDWICH, Mass. — Wicked windy is how this Nor’easter – turned blizzard - will be remembered in Sandwich.

Unrelenting winds with added gusts of up to 60 miles an hour pounded this seaside town. However, at the height of the storm, drivers that ventured out got stuck in drifts and plows made little headway in the white-out conditions.

“It’s pretty windy. It’s a lot. I knew it was going to be.”

Jessica Sabin is a local weather junky. She braved the blizzard to see and feel it first hand at Town Neck Beach.

“It started out slow… then the house was creaking a little. And now it’s just whistling through the windows,” said Sabin.

Those winds peaked late in the afternoon and then the snow piled up, burying cars and blanketing neighborhoods in upwards of two feet of snow.

Despite all that, Sabin wouldn’t live anywhere else. She says the Cape is worth it.

“It absolutely is,” she said.

And Sabin adds it helps to have a generator and a handy husband too!

“I do. It doesn’t go on automatic so hubby has to go out and hook it up,” she said.. And she admits it’s a lifesaver on a day like today. “Especially for the heat,” said Sabin.
