BOSTON — The Boston Athletic Association announced some details about the in-person and virtual 125th Boston Marathon on Monday.
Regarding the in-person race on Oct. 11, they said the field size will be 20,000 entrants. Runners can register from April 20 at 10 a.m. through April 23 at 5 p.m.
The selection process will be consistent with prior years, the BAA said. Applications and times will be verified and ranked by the BAA based on the amount of time an athlete has run under their respective qualifying standard.
Finishers will receive a special edition Unicorn medal.
For the virtual marathon, scheduled Oct. 8 to 10, runners can register beginning March 30 at 10 a.m. The first 70,000 people will be selected. Applicants not accepted into the in-person marathon will have the chance to register for the virtual event even if it is sold out.
Runners can participate in both the in-person and virtual race, the BAA said.
