FITCHBURG, Mass — Authorities in Massachusetts are investigating a fatal-pedestrian crash in Fitchburg.
According to State Police, preliminary investigation suggests that around 8:45 pm on Friday a Toyota Corolla was driving eastbound on Water Street.
At the same time, a 76-year-old male pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk in the area of Water and Nichols Street when he was struck by the Toyota.
The man was transported by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester where he was pronounced dead. His name will not be released until all proper notifications are made, according to the DA’s office.
The four-way intersection is where the cities of Leominster and Fitchburg meet. Police from both communities responded to the scene. It was determined the victim was struck in Fitchburg.
The operator of the Toyota was not injured and remained on the scene after the crash.
The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Fitchburg Police, and Leominster Police are all investigating this crash.
