AUBURN, Mass. — A local spa owner is facing charges for allegedly bribing a victim not to tell police following an indecent assault investigation in early October.

Chengan Zhu, 52, of Shrewsbury, was charged with witness intimidation and was arraigned in Worcester District Court on December 11.

On Sunday, October 6, Auburn Police say they received several 911 calls for a disturbance at Health Spa on Southbridge Street.

Arriving officers identified a 30-year-old woman who placed one of the calls. After interviewing her, police say she was a paying customer at the massage parlor and that 22-year-old Guangyo Gao had forced her to touch him inappropriately.

Gao was promptly arrested at the time.

After the incident, investigators determined the owner of the spa, Zhu, allegedly bribed the victim with money not to report the incident.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Zhu and took him into custody.

Following his court arraignment, Zhu was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court at a later date.
