'Always a peacemaker': Mass. leaders react to the death of 39th President Jimmy Carter

Massachusetts — As the news of 39th President Jimmy Carter’s death spread, many Massachusetts political leaders released statements of remembrance for the former President and Nobel Prize winner’s life.

Senator Susan Warren called Carter a “true public servant.”

Democratic Whip Katherine Clark issued a statement, stating that the former President was, “Always a peacemaker, he was a force for democracy in all corners of the world.”

Massachusetts Congresswoman Lori Trahan called Carter, “a good man who always saw the best in others.”

Governor Maura Healey said that President Carter lived his life “dedicated to peace, human rights, democracy and moral clarity.” Gov. Healey has also ordered all flags to be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings until January 28, 2025.
