BOSTON — Green Line commuters are frustrated with yet another issue on the T after a trolley car derailed by Packard’s Corner in Allston Monday.
“The city itself needs to do a lot more to like invest in the infrastructure and make sure this doesn’t keep happening across the T lines,” said Maggie Onder, a Green Line commuter.
The MBTA says all 30 passengers who were on the train got off safely, but it took about four hours to get the train back on track.
“We got to Blandford Street and they were like, yeah no sorry the train’s not working, we’re taking it out of service, like tough luck kinda,” said Julia Beal, a Green Line commuter. “It’s kinda frustrating when you pay 90 dollars a month to take the train and then the train doesn’t work.”
MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng says it appears the rail tracks are to blame after the center wheels went off the track.
Now crews are working into the night to fix those tracks at this busy intersection by Commonwealth Ave and Brighton Ave.
“Preliminarily the distance between the rails was not where it should have been, so we’re assessing as to how that happened,” said Eng.
Meanwhile, shuttle buses will replace the Green Line from Kenmore to Washington Street for the rest of the night. The MBTA is working to resume Green Line service by Tuesday morning.
“The shuttle buses are not reliable in the slightest whenever this happens or anything similar happens on the Green line, everyone’s delayed, people are late to work, it’s really a problem,” said Onder.
“I do take it to get to work, and so I’m either going to have to Uber or get on like 3 buses to get to where I need to go, it’s not going to be fun,” said Aliya Zwyer.
Eng says he hears those frustrations and will work to fix this stretch of the Green Line as quickly as possible.
“The team needs to pull together right, we have a lot of competing priorities as far as where we need to tackle, this is one of those that we’re going to look to accelerate,” said Eng.
Eng says they already had plans to fix this area of the Green Line this summer, but now they may move that work up after this derailment.
