BOSTON — The MBTA announces that the parking garage at Alewife Station will partially reopen to drivers on Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into the top floor of the structure over the weekend.
Garage levels G, 2, 3, and 4 will reopen to drivers but Level 5 will remain closed, and there will be no access to the Lobby floor, according to MBTA officials.
The MBTA continues to repair damage from a vehicle that crashed into the top floor of the Alewife parking garage on Saturday, sending a barrier and concrete debris onto the station below.
A young girl received minor injuries when a 10,000-pound concrete barrier fell onto the glass roof of the train station.
The MBTA says shuttle buses will replace the Red Line from Alewife to Davis Square for the rest of this week while utilizing the Russell Field headhouse, which is a two-minute walk from the garage.
“The T is currently installing signage and lighting along a path and providing customers access through a tunnel under the Alewife Brook Parkway to reach the headhouse,” said MBTA officials.
The T will continue to provide updates on the status of the Alewife Station, garage, and Russell Field headhouse as they become available.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
