SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — Southborough Police are crediting an alert resident with helping get a suspected serial house burglar behind bars.
A man who lives on Southville Road called police around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to report a suspicious black car was pulling out of his driveway as he was arriving home, according to Chief Kenneth Paulhus. The man was able to write down the car’s license plate, which Paulhus said came back to the same make and model of a car believed to be connected to a series of break-ins in town over the past two weeks.
The car’s registration came back to an address in Marlborough. Paulhus said Marlborough Police went to an apartment on Elm Street, had to force their way inside and arrested Richard Findley, 30, after a brief foot chase.
Marlborough Police took Findley back to their station on multiple outstanding warrants.
Southborough Police have charged Findley with breaking and entering daytime for a felony, larceny under $1,200 and destruction of property.
Paulhus said the investigation is ongoing. Detectives continue to match evidence with police in surrounding cities and towns. He anticipates more charges to be filed against Findley.
Anyone with information about the case is urged to contact Southborough Lieutenant Ryan Newell or Detective Keith Nicholas at 508-485-2147.
