Abington Fire Department receives new ambulance engine after months-long wait

ABINGTON, Mass — An Abington ambulance is back on the roads after a months-long battle to get the vehicle a new engine.

The Abington Fire Department first reached out to Boston 25 News in March after their 2019 Ford F-550 ambulance sat in a Walpole repair shop for nearly six months.

Abington had been down one of its two primary ambulances since October when Nuttall said the F-550 suffered “catastrophic engine failure.” Although the engine was under warranty Fire Chief John Nuttall said Ford had not made repairs because of “supply chain issues.”

Soon after the department reached out to Boston 25, the firefighters were told the engine would be replaced soon. Now the vehicle has been hard at work helping the town for several weeks.

“It’s been a long battle, but grateful to have it rectified,” the fire department wrote on Facebook. “It went back into service as the 1st line ambulance a few weeks ago and hasn’t stopped since.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
