7 students, staff members, hospitalized after mace sprayed inside Milford middle school

Milford, Mass — Seven students and staff members at Milford’s Stacy Middle School were hospitalized Wednesday after mace was sprayed inside the school’s mezzanine.

The school was evacuated as hazmat crews investigated inside the school.

The seven hospitalized individuals were brought to the hospital for precautionary measures and are expected to make a full recovery.

All afternoon school activities were canceled.

The school announced fire officials would need to assess the students before they can be dismissed and parents should expect their children home an hour later than normal.

Students were not let back into the building to get their belongings but will be able to do so Thursday when the building is cleared.

“I want to thank the Milford Police and Fire and the emergency service personnel who supported us this afternoon. I appreciate your patience and I understand the fear, unease, and upset these situations can cause,” said Superintendent Kevin McIntyre on Facebook.

Families can expect another update from the schools by 7 p.m.
