Smart shopping expert Trae Bodge shared some creative ways to save money at the supermarket with Boston 25 News.
Tip 1: Try coupon sites
“I would say Couponcabin.com is one of my favorites because they have grocery deals,” Bodge said. “You just search grocery and you will find deals like $10 off at Safeway or $10 off at Instacart up to $50 off at Fresh Direct. These are huge benefits you get buy using coupon sites when you are buying groceries.”
Tip 2: Buy frozen when you can. You can save big on expensive produce or meat that way.
Tip 3: Buy local in season when it comes to fruits and veggies. The cost to ship across country can add up.
Tip 4: Do your own prep. Anything that is pre-chopped and sliced is always going to cost you more.
Tip 5: choose wisely when shopping in bulk . For a smaller household ... You may want to stick to non-perishables, so you don’t have to worry about things that have a shelf life.
Tip 6: Cheat on your favorite brand. Try generic items or store brands to save significantly and the quality may surprise you.
And don’t forget to sign up for your store’s loyalty program. You’ll get exclusive deals. Even free items in some cases. You can see more of Trae’s shopping tips at truetrae.com
