BOSTON — Boston Police lined the Franklin Field Housing Development with crime scene tape early Thursday morning after five people were shot, and one man later died.

“You heard earlier screams over there,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins from the crime scene. “Whether that was family members, these things have rippling effects throughout communities.”

The call came in just before midnight Wednesday. Officers responded to the Ames Street Complex and found "a large outdoor crime scene."

This, after the city of Boston escaped deadly violence over the long holiday weekend.

“After making it through Memorial Day without a homicide for the second year in a row. We sadly had a violent night, not only in Boston, but in Suffolk County,” said Rollins.

All five shooting victims were taken to the hospital, where one man later died. Police haven’t identified the man who was killed. The four others who were shot have non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are looking for surveillance video and asking witnesses to come forward to help make an arrest. It’s unclear how many suspects police are searching for.

“It’s unfortunate that another person lost their life. We’re going to work with the district attorney, our community to stop these acts of senseless violence, said Boston Police Commissioner William Gross. “Again, please help us out.”
