4-year-old girl drowns in Danvers, police say

DANVERS, Mass. — A 4-year-old girl has died in Danvers after being found underwater at a nearby river, local police announced on Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to River Drive just after 12:00 p.m. Sunday for reports of a missing child who had apparently wandered off. When searching the surrounding area, law enforcement located her submerged in a nearby river.

The victim was transported to Beverly Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

State and local police are investigating the incident.
