CAMBRIDGE, Vt. — A 3-year-old boy died after he fell into a water storage tank at a popular New England family resort over the weekend, officials said.
Emergency crews responding to Smugglers Notch Resort in Cambridge, Vermont, on the afternoon of July 6 learned a child was walking in an area adjacent to an outdoor splash pad at the resort when he fell into a below-ground storage tank filled with water, according to Vermont State Police.
The boy, who state police identified as Tate Holtzman, of Cambridge, died over the weekend at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
An initial investigation indicated that Holtzman was in the water for approximately 10 minutes, according to state police.
Holtzman’s cause of death was drowning and the manner of his death was deemed an accident, the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington confirmed.
Holtzman was participating in a Smugglers Notch Resort day-camp program at the time of the incident.
An investigation into what led up to his death remains ongoing.
