3 Whitman-Hanson High School students face charges, accused of school threat

HANSON, Mass. — Three students who attend Whitman-Hanson High School face charges for allegedly posting threats of violence made toward numerous school districts over the weekend on social media.

The Whitman-Hanson Regional School District told Boston 25 News school officials were alerted to the post on Monday around 9 a.m. The post showed a Whitman-Hanson student holding a realistic-looking pellet gun with a caption telling people not to come to school on Monday.

Whitman-Hanson Schools weren’t specially mentioned in the overarching threats over the weekend. But out of an abundance of caution, there was an increase in police presence at Whitman-Hanson High School that morning.

“The district treats all issues of school safety with the highest priority,” Superintendent Szymaniak said. “We want to thank the Whitman and Hanson Police Departments for their assistance during their increased early-morning presence at the high school this morning and in investigating the subsequent social media post. I would like to assure all members of our school community that there was no threat to students or staff, and we will continue to monitor the situation as necessary.”

Students and family members cooperated fully with Whitman and Hanson Police while authorities were investigating the post. It was later determined that there was no credible threat to the school community. After the initial investigation, three students at Whitman-Hanson High School will now be summonsed to appear in juvenile court as a result of the post.

Since the students are juveniles, their identities will not be released.
