FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — Three people and a dog all have serious injuries after two shoplifting suspects sped head-on into an oncoming driver, according to Foxborough Police. The crash happened on North Street at around noon on Sunday.
Police said that the two people in the minivan – a man and a woman – were being followed by officers after reports that they had stolen items from the CVS at Patriots Place. A man in a blue pickup truck was driving with a golden retriever when the two vehicles slammed into one another.
“I heard a thunderous collision,” explained John Babbitt, a retired 25-year veteran of the Foxborough Fire Department.
Babbitt told Boston 25 News that he was sitting inside his home on North Street, watching television and listening to his police scanner, when he heard officers talking about the suspect’s vehicle.
It was shortly after that he watched that vehicle speed by.

“Just north of my house I heard the acceleration of the van,” he said. “Just as it went by the window as I happened to look up, that’s when I witnessed the described vehicle go flying by, and then I heard the collision at the corner.”
Babbitt said he quickly went outside to help and began to render aid to the driver of the blue pickup.
“I identified myself to the officers on scene, and I was directed to the blue pickup truck involved in the head-on collision,” he said. “He was moderately entrapped in that vehicle with his golden retriever.”
According to Foxborough Police, that driver and the man and woman in the minivan were all taken to Boston for immediate medical attention. The dog was brought to Tuft’s Veterinary in Walpole.
“I hope the best for the gentleman that was involved,” Babbitt said.
The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office are all investigating the incident. As of 10 p.m. Sunday evening, no charges had been filed.
