WEBSTER, Mass. — Three people are facing criminal charges after several Massachusetts police officers were assaulted while they tried to break up a large brawl that broke out at a toddler’s birthday party in late November, authorities announced Sunday.
Officers responding to a report of a large fight in the street at 23 Everett Avenue in Webster just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, quelled the disturbance and those involved agreed to go inside, according to the Webster Police Department.
Just minutes later, six officers who were called back to the same address for a report of another disturbance observed evidence of another fight among partygoers attending a 2-year-old child’s party, police said.
While officers investigated, 27-year-old Worcester native Jordan Campos allegedly entered the apartment and tried to fight another man. Police said he struck an officer, prompting the deployment of a stun gun to subdue him.
Police said two additional officers were then assaulted when other people entered the apartment and allegedly interfered with the arrest of Campos.
Campos is also accused of kicking an officer and spitting on another after he was arrested.
Departments from Douglas, Auburn, Oxford, Dudley, Southbridge, Sutton, Leicester, and Worcester, sent officers to the scene to assist Webster police. Massachusetts State Police also dispatched troopers.
“During this fight, several attempts were made to get updates from the officers on the scene,” the department said in a statement. “No response was given over the radio, at which point dispatchers put an emergency request out over a Regional Radio Channel that broadcasts to numerous area departments.”
Campos is charged with disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest, three counts of assault and battery on a police officer, and assault and battery attempting to disarm a police officer.
Marylin Lopez, 27, of Webster, and 28-year-old Franklin Baez, of Worcester, were also arrested on charges of assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disturbing the peace, and disorderly conduct.
An investigation is ongoing.
