FRANKLIN, Mass. — Massachusetts is home to many of the safest communities in the United States, according to a new study.
Visual Capitalist recently published a map that showcases the safest communities across the country after analyzing FBI data and Census Bureau population data from 2023.
The ranking is based on crimes reported in cities with a population of 25,000 or higher, including arson, burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, murder, rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, according to researchers.
Forty percent of the communities in the ranking are in the Northeast with 18 of the top 50 and 26 of the top 100 located in Massachusetts.
Ridgefield, Connecticut, was named the safest community in the country, followed by Franklin, Massachusetts.

Nearly a dozen other communities in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire also made the list.
