MALDEN, Mass. — Officials say the suspect wanted in connection to a fatal shooting that took place Tuesday morning in Malden has been arrested. That shooting resulted in the death of Erin Fitzgibbon, 30, of Everett.
That suspect, identified as 30-year-old Brian Butler, has had a warrant issued for his arrest.
On Wednesday morning, officials announced the suspect had been arrested thanks to a nearby resident’s video footage that “served as a crucial piece of the puzzle that lead to today’s arrest.”
Butler is set to appear in court Wednesday.
Officials have also arrested Cody DiGaetano, 24 of Chelsea in connection with allegedly helping Butler flee the scene and provide transportation to Ashland after the shooting. DiGaetano has been charged with accessory after the fact to an armed robbery and accessory after the fact to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He will also be arraigned Wednesday in Malden District Court.
Police responded to a call just after 7:15 a.m. Tuesday for report of a robbery and a person shot. Upon arriving at the scene police found Fitzgibbon, who had been shot in the head. She was transported to Mass. General Hospital where she later died.
The person who called 911 told officials that they knew the suspect, who police later identified as Butler.
Officials charged Butler with murder, armed home invasion, armed assault with intent to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm and possession of a loaded firearm.
