A 17-year-old has been indicted on a murder charge in connection to an April 2024 shooting that caused a car to crash into a Worcester home.

A Worcester County Grand Jury handed a murder indictment against Kayden M. Keane Hoffler for the 2024 shooting that killed Eathan Renteria, 19, of Worcester, the Worcester County District Attorney’s office said.

Officers responding to Paine Street on April 30 just after 9 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that struck a house found Renteria inside the car and suffering from a gunshot wound, according to Worcester Police.

The DA’s office says Renteria was hospitalized for about three weeks before succumbing to his injuries on May 16, 2024.

Hoffler was initially arrested on May 8 and charged in juvenile court on armed assault to murder and firearms charges. On Oct. 1, he was arraigned on a murder charge in Worcester Central District Court.

The indictment will cause the case to be moved to Worcester Superior Court. Hoffler is expected to be arraigned on Jan. 13.
