17-year-old facing manslaughter charge in Groton crash that left 14-year-old dead

GROTON, Mass. — Groton Police Department announced that they have arrested and charged a 17-year-old in connection to an October crash that killed a 14-year-old boy.

The crash happened late Monday night on October 14, when Groton First Responders were dispatched to Fishtown Road for reports of a collision with serious injuries.

Upon arrival, police found that all 4 occupants of the vehicle were suffering from serious injuries, and were transported to the hospital.

Later on in the night, police were informed that one of the passengers, a 14-year-old boy, had passed away at the hospital.

After a thorough investigation, police obtained an arrest warrant for the 17-year-old male.

Police determined that at the time of the crash, the 17-year-old, who was the driver of the vehicle, had an elevated blood alcohol level and was speeding.

The driver is facing the following charges:

  • Manslaughter in the Second Degree with a Motor Vehicle
  • Misconduct with a Motor Vehicle
  • Assault in the First Degree (Two Counts)
  • Operation by Person Under 21 years of Age while Blood Alcohol Content Exceeds Two-hundredths of One Percent.
  • Speeding
  • Failure to Drive in Proper Lane
  • Reckless Driving
  • Failure to Wear Safety Belt (Passenger)
  • Violation of Operator Requirements by 16/17-year-old

He is expected to be arraigned at a later date.
