14-year-old crashes pickup truck into Brockton home

BROCKTON, Mass. — A 14-year-old crashed a pickup truck into a Brockton home Wednesday night, knocking down porches and forcing residents to find another place to stay after the building inspector determined it was structurally unsafe, according to Brockton police.

Police said the teen claimed he put his father’s Ford F-150 pickup in reverse and tried to hit the brakes, but somehow the truck slammed into the porches and knocked them down.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. Firefighters helped get the tenants out, which included a child who is in a wheelchair. The owner of the building says he heard the crash and immediately got a call from one of his tenants.

“That was the main thing,” said Matthew Veiga, who owns the building, “I was like is everyone OK?”

The home inspector determined the families can’t stay in the home due to the damage, so the owner says they’ll be staying with family. The second-floor tenants weren’t home at the time.

Veiga said he’ll be back Thursday morning to fix the stairs.

Police say they a complaint has been filed against the teen and he will be called to appear in court.
