14-year-old boy facing assault to murder charge in connection with Worcester shooting

WORCESTER, Mass. — A 14-year-old boy is facing criminal charges in connection with a shooting in Worcester last week that left a man hospitalized.

The suspected shooter, whose name hasn’t been released because of his age, was arrested over the weekend on charges of armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, according to the Worcester Police Department.

Officers responding to a report of a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Mount Vernon Street just before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, found a 25-year-old gunshot victim.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. There was no word on the severity of his injuries.

Detectives developed probable cause for the arrest of the boy following an investigation, according to police.

It wasn’t immediately clear when the suspect would be called to court to face the charges.
