NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — One person was killed in a crash involving several vehicles on Route 114, the Essex County District Attorney’s office has confirmed.

The fatal crash happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Several roads were blocked off for hours.

“All we heard was a screeching of tires, then a crash,” said Kendra Wheeler, who works at Little Sprouts day care at the intersection of where the crash happened.

They were getting ready to close and send the kids home for the night when they saw the crash. Witnesses said at least 3 cars were involved.

“By the time our coworkers came outside, the car was on the side,” said Wheeler.

When Wheeler ran outside, she saw a Ford on its side, and people running to help.

“There were a lot of people who stopped to help, along 114 that way, and that way who got out,” said Wheeler.

Witnesses said the airbags were deployed in a Lexus F sport sedan. On the other side of the stop sign, witnesses said the driver of an Audi was also involved.

One driver who had on an ankle monitoring bracelet was taken to the hospital, witnesses said. People who ran to help were congregating around the drivers.

“There were people that were trying to talk to people in the cars, trying to calm them down,” said Wheeler.

Wheeler said this intersection has been a problem for some time now.

“We have seen countless accidents here. Most of them are minor fender benders,” said Wheeler.

We reached out to the town spokesperson for more information. Witnesses said they saw 2 other people taken away by ambulance.

The investigation is ongoing.

Both directions of the road was closed for several hours while emergency crews responded to the scene.
