Local chefs making pies to help raise money for nonprofit

Hundreds of local chefs and bakers are coming together to bake thousands of pies — all to benefit a local nonprofit that feeds people in need.

It's a massive undertaking that takes a small army of volunteers. They're making and selling 25,000 pies ahead of Thanksgiving, so if you need a hand in the kitchen, it's a win-win!

The fundraiser Pie in the Sky raises money for the group Community Servings.

Every year, local chefs and bakers make thousands of pies and sell them for $30 each. Proceeds from those pies go to helping people in the community, year-round, who are too sick to shop or cook for themselves.

"Each pie on your table -- it raises enough money for us to feed one of our critically ill patients a week. So, the folks here in the community get a beautiful pie from Eastern Standard or other exceptional restaurants...while we get enough revenue to feed a neighbor," said David Waters, CEO, Community Servings.
