BOSTON — A local police chief has been fired for misuse of information and irresponsible management, according to a letter from the board of selectmen.
The letter, obtained by FOX25, was sent to Townsend Police Chief Robert Eaton earlier this month, before he was fired in a unanimous vote during a public hearing Friday.
Eaton had been on administrative leave since February, pending an investigation of allegations about his management from Oct. 27 until Feb. 10.
Allegations from the board included failing to manage the department in an “efficient and responsible manner,” misuse of criminal justice information and giving confidential information to the public, according to the letter.
The former chief had fought to have the hearing postponed until he completed treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder, but the requests were denied.
