PHILADELPHIA — Country music star Kenny Chesney apologized after he mistakenly told a packed crowd at a concert in Philadelphia that a Pennsylvania police officer had died.
Folcroft Borough Police Officer Christopher Dorman was shot seven times Friday morning during a drug investigation near Philadelphia, The Associated Press reported. He has been hospitalized since the shooting, but police expect him to be released Monday afternoon.
Dorman, 25, planned to attend Chesney's concert on Saturday, but had to skip it as he recovered from his injuries. Speaking from his hospital bed, the officer thanked police, paramedics and doctors in a video shared by WPVI.
"Hey Kenny, don't forget about me," he added.
Chesney honored the officer at his show, although he was apparently misinformed about Dorman's status.
"Before we get going with the rest of the show, last night, a Philadelphia police officer was shot seven times," Chesney told the crowd gathered at Lincoln Financial Field. "In the hospital on his bed he passed away, but before he passed away he made a video that he wanted to come tonight so bad, and he said 'Kenny, please don't forget me.'"
The Folcroft Borough Police Department was quick to correct the singer. In a statement written in all capital letters on its Facebook page, the police department confirmed that Dorman is, in fact, "alive and well."
"(I don't know) what Kenny Chesney was thinking when he said that at his concert tonight," the department wrote. "I hope he makes another announcement to make this right."
