BROCKTON, Mass. — Hundreds of people were without power early Friday after several explosions in a pair of manholes in downtown Brockton.
Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter said in a tweet early Friday that power was cut to several streets after overnight manhole explosions near School and Montello streets. No one was injured in the blasts, he said; it's still unclear what caused the explosions.
National Grid was at the scene investigating, along with Brockton Fire. Part of Montello Street, from Crescent to Lincoln streets, was closed.
Around 4 a.m., over 600 customers were without power. National Grid's website showed all customers had power back before 7 a.m.
The cause of the explosions is under investigation.
