Human remains on Plum Island determined to be male

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Bones found on Plum Island Saturday have been determined to be the remains of a male, according to the Essex County District Attorney's Office.

No details on the identity of the male, or his age range, were given.

On Sunday, Newbury Police confirmed that human remains were discovered on the Newbury side of Plum Island after police received a report of a human bone in the beach area behind 28 Fordham Way. After a cycle of the tide, more remains were found, including some remains that were found further south on the island.

Bill Barrett told The Boston Globe his chocolate Labrador retriever puppy uncovered what appeared to be a human leg bone in the sand on the Newbury side of the beach, still covered with a sock.

A coordinated search on Sunday covering a three mile area on the beach uncovered more remains.
