Here are the 'hate groups' operating in New England

BOSTON — At least five different ‘hate groups’ actively operate in the state of Massachusetts, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

A few more are active in other New England States.

One of the organization’s efforts is the tracking of hate groups, which it categorizes as any organization that has “beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics.”

According the SPLC, New England is home to several groups that include neo-Nazis, anti-Muslim groups, anti-LGBT and “general hate” groups.

Among those, are the Aryan Strikeforce, the Daily Stormer, Gallows Tree Wotansvolk and the Eastern Hammerskins.

Hate groups’ activities may include speeches, publications, rallies, meetings, marches or criminal acts – though not all organizations listed engage in criminal activity.

“This list was compiled using hate group publications and websites, citizen and law enforcement reports, field sources and news reports. Groups that appear in the center of states represent statewide groups,” the group’s website states.

The SPLC is a non-profit advocacy group dedicated to civil rights and was founded in 1971 in Montgomery, Alabama.
