SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone is prepared for a solid turnout during 14 days of early voting.

It starts on Saturday, Oct. 17 and goes until Friday, Oct. 30 at Somerville City Hall.

Mayor Curtatone told Boston 25 News that the previous round of early voting ahead of the September primaries was a success.

He’s not anticipating any issues this time around.

“We had incredible compliance and few very incidents of people not wearing face masks,” said Curtatone. “This is also certainly going to help us avoid the cuing and the larger crowds on Election Day.”

As Somerville now finds itself in the state’s high risk category for COVID-19, Curtatone does not anticipate early voting will have any impact on his community’s case count.

“When folks show up, they’ll be safely socially distant outside City Hall and will be checked in to vote in small numbers,” said Curtatone. “If you can’t vote by mail and you want to early vote, it’s safe.”

Of the more than 4.6 million voters in Massachusetts, more than 1.7 million have requested mail-in ballots so far.
