MHA mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for healthcare workers

BOSTON — After reviewing scientific and public health records, the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association has concluded that mandatory vaccination of healthcare workers is in the best interest of patients and healthcare workers’ public health and safety.

The MHA and its Board of Trustees announced Thursday night it unanimously endorses that healthcare staff members statewide must get their COVID-19 vaccinations.

“Each hospital and health system will establish its own policy and timeline for mandatory vaccination, exercising their independent judgment, based on their workforce and the needs of the communities they serve and will comply with all federal and state laws in granting appropriate medical and religious exemptions.”

The MHA says healthcare workers have been at the forefront of the Commonwealth’s remarkable COVID-19 response and that COVID-19 vaccinations are the most effective way to prevent it from spreading and helps keep its patients, staff, families, and communities safe.

Since December, hospitals across the state have administered more than 2 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, with Massachusetts ranking second in the nation for the highest rate of fully vaccinated people.
