Mass. restaurants looking forward to new capacity guidelines

WALTHAM, Mass. — The light seemed to get bright at the end of the tunnel this week when the governor resumed re-opening the state. Just like the sign outside their business says, this pandemic has taught them what it’s like to be in a pickle. In A Pickle Restaurant manager, Shannon Rossi, told us their restaurant was excited about the loosening of restrictions schedule to begin on Monday.

“It has definitely been a game of changing gears quickly, so we have to follow the rules and really have to think on our feet,” Rossi said.

The game changes again on Mar. 1, when restaurants can seat at full capacity again as long as they follow social distancing rules. In A Pickle Restaurant owner, Tim Burke, started a renovation project when outdoor dining was closing last Fall. Now he’s trying to get it online as the state lifts the capacity restrictions.

“People are still a little hesitant coming out, so anytime we can open up a little more and open space, give them what they want and ease their fears we are all for it,” Burke said.

Buff’s Pub in Newton Corner is also tight on space. Co-owner Dave Morrissey said they are banking on game days returning at places like Fenway and TD Garden.

“People are ready to get to that light at the end of the tunnel,” Morrissey said.

Buff’s is also planning to go big on outdoor dining to help make up for this past year.

“Six extra tables outside. It works well for us,” Morrissey said.
