New cases, deaths decrease as DPH reports 2,546 new cases, 46 additional deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Sunday that there are 2,546 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the state since the pandemic began to 498,145, including an estimated 71,948 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 46 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, 14,287 people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of the virus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Sunday, DPH reported that Mass. has administered 93,918 new molecular tests for COVID-19, pushing the total number of tests given out by the state since the pandemic began to 13,632,898.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped to 3.61% on Sunday.

Saturday, Jan. 30

State reports 3,957 new confirmed cases, 87 additional deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Saturday that there are 3,957 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. Since the outbreak began in the state, Mass. has seen a total of 495,599 confirmed cases of the virus, including an estimated 72,965 active ones.

Additionally, Mass. DPH reported that 87 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of the virus, pushing the total number of fatalities in the state among people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 14,241.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Saturday that 143,342 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19, pushing the total number of tests given out for the virus in the state to 13,538,980.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 3.89% Saturday.

Friday, Jan. 29

New death numbers on the rise

SPECIAL NOTE ON TODAY’S CASE NUMBERS: A technical issue delayed the reporting of almost 24,800 laboratory results (both positive and negative), which would normally have been included in today’s counts. This has resulted in lower than usual total molecular tests and new cases in today’s report (1/29). These results will be included in tomorrow’s numbers.

Mass. DPH reports 2,781 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Friday. There are now 491,642 total confirmed cases in the state. Health officials estimate there are approximately 74,595 active cases in the Commonwealth.

The state saw a significant increase in new deaths Friday, with 98 reported, up from Thursday’s 43. There have been 14,154 people who have died in Massachusetts from COVID-19.

The state reports 86,197 COVID-19 tests Thursday. The 7-day positivity rate is 4.28%.

There are currently 1,789 people hospitalized with COVID-19; 412 are in the ICU.

State reports another increase in new cases

Mass. DPH reports 4,222 new confirmed COVID-19 cases Thursday, up over 1,000 from Wednesday’s 3,022. There are now 488,861 total confirmed cases in the state. Health officials estimate there are approximately 78,171 active cases in the commonwealth.

The state saw a decrease in new deaths Thursday with 43 reported, down from Wednesday’s 83. There have been 14,056 people who have died in Massachusetts from COVID-19.

The state reports 116,963 COVID-19 tests Thursday. The 7-day positivity rate is 4.44%.

There are currently 1,878 people hospitalized with COVID-19; 442 are in the ICU.

Wednesday, Jan. 27

Numbers of new cases, deaths both increase as new tests go up

On Wednesday, the state’s Department of Public Health reported that there are 3,022 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass., an increase from Tuesday’s 2,215 new cases. In total, Mass. has had 484,639 total confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began, including an estimated 80,909 active ones.

Additionally, the state reported that 83 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 14,013. Those 83 new deaths are more than double the amount of new fatalities that were reported yesterday.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Wednesday that 96,203 new molecular tests were administered in Massachusetts. Since the pandemic began, the state has given out 13,192,478 total molecular tests for COVID-19. The number of new tests doled out for the coronavirus in the state is nearly double the amount that was reported yesterday.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 4.67% on Wednesday as well.

Tuesday, Jan. 26

Fourth day in a row with lower new cases, deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that there are 2,215 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. In total, the state has had 481,617 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began, including an estimated 85,395 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 41 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 13,930.

This is the fourth consecutive day that the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the number of new deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus have both decreased.

DPH also announced Tuesday that 49,701 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has given out 13,096,275 total molecular tests for the virus. The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped slightly Monday to 4.77%.

There are 1,951 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of those patients, 431 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 278 patients are intubated. The average age of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Tuesday was 71 years old.

Monday, Jan. 25

New cases, deaths both drop for third day in a row

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there are 3,477 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. In total, the state has had 479,402 confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the pandemic began, including an estimated 92,305 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 45 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people who had confirmed cases of the virus to 13,889.

This is the third consecutive day that the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the number of new deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus have both decreased.

DPH also announced Monday that 78,650 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Massachusetts has given out 13,046,574 total molecular tests for the virus. The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped slightly Monday to 4.82%.

Sunday, Jan. 24

DPH reports 3,750 new cases, 67 additional deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Sunday that there are 3,750 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, pushing the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Mass. since the beginning of the pandemic to 475,925.

Additionally, Mass. DPH reported that 67 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began in the commonwealth, 13,844 people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of the virus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced that 101,327 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19. In total, 12,967,924 molecular tests have been given out by the state since the outbreak began.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 4.85% Sunday.

Saturday, Jan. 23

4,330 new confirmed cases, 75 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 4,330 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Saturday, down slightly from 4,935 cases reported on Friday. That brings the total to 472,175 confirmed cases in the state.

On Saturday, 75 new deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, and two deaths of persons with probable cases of the virus, were reported. To date, a total of 13,777 people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died in Massachusetts since the pandemic began.

Currently, there are an estimated 92,193 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

Also Saturday, the DPH reported that 112,391 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19, bringing the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to date to 12,866,597.

There are 2,055 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of those patients, 418 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 291 patients are intubated. The average age of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Saturday remained at 71 years old.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.17%, down from 5.51% on Friday.

Friday, Jan. 22

4,935 new confirmed cases, 80 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 4,935 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, up from 4,821 cases reported on Thursday, and 3,987 cases reported on Wednesday. That brings the total to 467,845 confirmed cases in the state.

On Friday, there were 80 new deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, and one death of a person with a probable case of the virus, DPH reported. To date, a total of 13,702 people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died in Massachusetts since the pandemic began.

Currently, there are an estimated 89,433 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

Also Friday, the DPH reported that 105,768 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19, bringing the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to date to 12,754,206.

There are 2,098 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of those patients, 426 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 282 patients are intubated. The average age of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Friday remained at 71 years old.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.51%, down slightly from 5.57% on Thursday, and down from 5.86% on Wednesday.

Thursday, Jan. 21

4,821 new confirmed cases, 75 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 4,821 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, up from 3,987 cases reported on Wednesday. That brings the total to 462,910 confirmed cases in the state.

The new data from the state released Thursday followed Gov. Charlie Baker’s announcement to ease restrictions in Massachusetts. On Monday at 5:00 a.m., the state’s stay-at-home advisory, which was in effect for the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., will be lifted. The state will also be lifting its order requiring most businesses to close by 9:30 p.m. each night. Effective with the Jan. 25 rescinding of the order, the following businesses listed below may operate past 9:30 p.m.

On Thursday, there were 75 new deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, and two deaths of people with probable cases of the virus, DPH reported. To date, a total of 13,622 people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died in Massachusetts since the pandemic began.

Currently, there are an estimated 88,929 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

Also Thursday, the DPH reported that 111,726 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19, up from 82,567 tests reported being administered on Wednesday. That is noticeably more tests administered than on Tuesday, when the state reported 55,565 molecular tests had been administered. The total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to date is 12,648,438.

There are 2,152 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of those patients, 430 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 287 patients are intubated. The average age of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Thursday is 71 years old.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.57%, down from 5.86% on Wednesday.

Wednesday, Jan. 20

3,987 new confirmed cases, 78 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 3,987 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, up from 2,567 cases reported on Tuesday. That brings the total to 458,089 confirmed cases in the state.

There were 78 new confirmed deaths, up from 45 deaths reported on Tuesday. To date, a total of 13,547 people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died in Massachusetts since the pandemic began.

Currently, there are an estimated 90,154 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

On Wednesday, the DPH reported that 82,567 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That is noticeably more tests administered than on Tuesday, when the state reported 55,565 molecular tests had been administered. The total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to date is 12,536,712.

There are 2,209 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of those patients, 444 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 299 patients are intubated.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.86%, down slightly from 5.94% on Tuesday.

Tuesday, Jan. 19

2,567 new confirmed cases, 45 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 2,567 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, down from 3,224 cases reported on Monday. That brings the total to 454,102 confirmed cases in the state.

There were 45 new confirmed deaths, down from 52 deaths reported on Monday. To date, a total of 13,469 people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died in Massachusetts since the pandemic began.

Currently, there are an estimated 93,300 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

On Tuesday, the DPH reported that 55,565 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That is considerably fewer tests administered than over the weekend, when the state reported on Saturday, by comparison, that 112,120 molecular tests had been administered. The total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to date is 12,454,145.

There are 2,213 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of those patients, 432 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 277 patients are intubated.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.94%, a very slight increase from Monday’s 5.91%.

Monday, Jan. 18

3,224 new confirmed cases, 52 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 3,224 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total to 451,535 confirmed cases in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. That’s 1,059 fewer cases than reported on Sunday.

There were 52 new confirmed deaths and one probable death. In total, 13,424 people across Massachusetts have died from COVID-19 and there have been 281 probable deaths.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.91%, a slight increase from Sunday’s 5.86%.

There are 2,206 patients being hospitalized for the coronavirus across Massachusetts. Of that, 427 patients are in intensive care units (ICU) and 288 patients are intubated.

Sunday, Jan. 17

4,283 new cases, 67 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 4,283 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. This brings the total to 448,311 total confirmed cases in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

There were 67 new confirmed deaths and two probable deaths.

The seven-day average of percent positivity is 5.86%.

For hospitalizations, there are 2,165 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in the state. Of that number, 433 are in intensive care units and 288 are intubated.

Saturday, Jan. 16

5,657 new cases, 74 additional deaths reported

On Saturday, Massachusetts reported 5,657 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the state’s Department of Public Health reported. Also, 74 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 13,305 people die while having confirmed cases of the virus.

To date, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the state since the pandemic began is 444,028. Currently, there are an estimated 98,317 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

On Saturday, the DPH reported that 112,120 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That pushes the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to 12,259,486 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 6.15 % on Saturday, down from 6.45% on Friday, and down from 6.67% on Thursday.

Currently, 2,197 patients remain hospitalized in Massachusetts with COVID-19. Of these patients, 433 were in the intensive care unit and 294 were intubated.

5,074 new cases, 75 additional deaths reported

On Friday, Massachusetts reported 5,074 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the state’s Department of Public Health reported. Also, 75 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 13,231 people die while having confirmed cases of the virus.

To date, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the state since the pandemic began is 438,371. Currently, there are an estimated 93,597 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

On Friday, the DPH reported that 100,968 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That pushes the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to 12,147,366 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 6.45% on Friday, down from 6.67% on Thursday, and down from 7.11% on Wednesday.

5,545 new cases, 74 additional deaths reported

On Thursday, Massachusetts surpassed more than 12 million molecular tests administered for the novel coronavirus since the pandemic began, the state’s Department of Public Health reported. The state saw 5,545 new confirmed cases of coronavirus, and 74 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 13,156 people die while having confirmed cases of the virus.

To date, the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the state since the pandemic began is 433,297. Currently, there are an estimated 91,396 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

On Thursday, the DPH reported that 101,413 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That pushes the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to 12,046,398 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 6.67% on Thursday, down from 7.11% on Wednesday, and down from 7.45% on Tuesday.

Wednesday, Jan. 13

5,278 new cases, 86 additional deaths reported

On Wednesday, Massachusetts surpassed 13,000 deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, the state’s Department of Public Health reported. The state reported 86 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 13,082 people die while having confirmed cases of the virus.

Also Wednesday, the state reported 5,278 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, pushing the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the state since the pandemic began to 427,752. Currently, there are an estimated 90,467 active cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, Mass. DPH reported that 100,276 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That pushes the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to 11,944,985 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 7.11% on Wednesday, down from 7.45% on Tuesday.

Currently, 2,200 patients remain hospitalized in Massachusetts with COVID-19. Of these patients, 461 were in the intensive care unit and 286 were intubated.

Tuesday, Jan. 12

4,906 new cases, 67 additional deaths reported

On Tuesday, the state’s Department of Public Health reported that there are 4,906 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, pushing the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the state since the pandemic began to 422,474. Currently, there are an estimated 90,975 active cases of the coronavirus in Mass.

Additionally, DPH reported Tuesday that 67 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 12,996 people die while having confirmed cases of the virus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, Mass. DPH reported that 69,982 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. That pushes the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to 11,844,709 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 7.45% on Tuesday as well.

Currently, 2,219 patients remain hospitalized in Massachusetts for COVID-19, including 451 who are in ICUs and 271 who are currently intubated.

Monday, Jan. 11

State sees 4,239 new cases, 54 new deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Monday that there are 4,239 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in the state since the pandemic began to 417,568. Currently, there are an estimated 92,405 active cases in Massachusetts.

Additionally, DPH reported that 54 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began in Mass., the commonwealth has seen 12,929 deaths among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

Currently, 2,211 patients in the commonwealth remain hospitalized for COVID-19, including 451 patients in intensive care units and 285 who are intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 57,414 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Mass. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the commonwealth has given out 11,774,727 total molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased slightly Monday to 7.26%.

Sunday, Jan. 10

DPH reports 5,396 new cases, 77 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Sunday that there are 5,396 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth. Since the pandemic began in Mass., there have been 413,329 total confirmed cases of the virus, including an estimated 90,567 active ones.

Additionally, the state reported that 77 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. The state has seen 12,875 fatalities among people with confirmed cases of the virus since the pandemic began in spring 2020.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Sunday, DPH reported that 81,754 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19. In total, the commonwealth has given out 11,717,313 molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dropped to 7.21% Sunday.

Saturday, Jan. 9

State sees 7,110 new cases, 90 new fatalities

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Saturday that there are 7,110 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, according to their latest daily dashboard of coronavirus statistics. That pushes the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state since the pandemic began to 407,933.

Additionally, DPH reported that 90 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people who had confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 12,798.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Saturday, DPH announced that 109,793 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has given out 11,635,559 total molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped to 7.35% on Saturday.

Friday, Jan. 8

DPH reports 74 new confirmed deaths, 7,635 new cases

The state is reporting 74 additional deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, the state’s Department of Public Health announced on Friday. Two additional deaths of people with probable cases of the virus were reported.

There are 7,635 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts as of Friday, DPH reported.

The state has seen a total of 400,823 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. since the pandemic began in the commonwealth back in March 2020. Currently, there are an estimated 87,348 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.

To date, the state has seen 12,708 deaths of people with confirmed cases of the virus.

Currently, 2,311 people with confirmed cases of the virus remain hospitalized in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 440 were in the intensive care unit and 280 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Friday that 108,569 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 11,525,766 molecular tests given out for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests decreased to 7.49% on Friday.

DPH reports 71 new confirmed deaths, 7,136 new cases

The state is reporting 71 additional deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, the state’s Department of Public Health announced on Thursday. Two additional deaths of people with probable cases of the virus were reported.

There are 7,136 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts as of Thursday, DPH reported, up from Wednesday’s data.

The state has seen a total of 393,188 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. since the pandemic began in the commonwealth back in March 2020. Currently, there are an estimated 81,604 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.

To date, the state has seen 12,634 deaths of people with confirmed cases of the virus.

Currently, 2,386 people with confirmed cases of the virus remain hospitalized in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 455 were in the intensive care unit and 277 were intubated. Gov. Baker said Thursday that hospital occupancy is up to 84%, an increase from 64% at Thanksgiving.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Thursday that 108,412 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 11,417,197 molecular tests given out for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests decreased to 7.83% on Thursday.

Mass. reports 99 new confirmed deaths, 6,419 new cases

The state is reporting 99 additional deaths of people with confirmed cases of coronavirus, up from 63 deaths reported on Tuesday, the state’s Department of Public Health announced on Wednesday. Three additional deaths of people with probable cases of the virus were reported.

There are 6,419 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts as of Wednesday, DPH reported.

The state has seen a total of 386,052 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. since the pandemic began in the commonwealth back in March 2020. Currently, there are an estimated 79,967 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.

To date, the state has seen 12,563 deaths of people with confirmed cases of the virus.

Currently, 2,416 people with confirmed cases of the virus remain hospitalized in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 442 were in the intensive care unit and 281 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Wednesday that 102,573 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 11,308,785 molecular tests given out for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 8.25% on Wednesday as well.

Tuesday, January 5

63 new deaths reported, 4,178 new confirmed cases.

The state of Massachusetts has now seen more than 379,633 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Department of Public Health’s latest COVID-19 daily dashboard. As of Tuesday, there are 4,178 new confirmed cases of the virus in the state. Currently, there are an estimated 79,406 active cases in Mass.

Additionally, DPH reported that 63 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 12,464 since the pandemic began.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 59,718 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19.

In total, the state has given out 11,206,212 molecular tests since the pandemic began in the commonwealth.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose again slightly to 8.57% on Tuesday as well.

Monday, January 4

Mass. eclipses 375K-mark for total confirmed cases

The state of Massachusetts has now seen more than 375,000 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Department of Public Health’s latest COVID-19 daily dashboard. As of Monday, there are 4,358 new confirmed cases of the virus in the state, pushing the total number of confirmed cases in Mass. since the outbreak began to 375,455. Currently, there are an estimated 81,449 active cases in Mass.

Additionally, DPH reported that 60 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 12,401 since the pandemic began.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 15,196 new molecular tests have been administered in Massachusetts for COVID-19. In total, the state has given out 11,146,494 molecular tests since the pandemic began in the commonwealth. The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose slightly to 8.50% on Monday as well.

Sunday, January 3

105 new deaths reported while state sees 3,110 additional confirmed cases

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Sunday that 105 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the pandemic began in the commonwealth, Massachusetts has seen 12,341 people die while having confirmed cases of the virus.

Additionally, DPH reported Sunday that there are 3,110 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. In total, Mass. has seen 371,097 confirmed cases of the virus since the outbreak began, including an estimated 79,261 active ones.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, Mass. DPH reported that 44,831 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19, pushing the total number of molecular tests given out in the state for the coronavirus to 11,090,924.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped to 8.42% on Sunday.

Saturday, January 2

Mass. reports 8,542 new cases after no report made New Year’s Day

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Saturday that there are 8,542 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth over the last two days. DPH had not made a report of new COVID-19 statistics on Friday, New Years’ Day, instead, having Saturday’s report contain the combined totals for both days.

“Today’s dashboard includes reports received from approximately 12:00 AM on Thursday, December 31 through 11:59 PM on Friday, January 1. As a result, today’s numbers reflect case counts from the entire time period,” DPH said in Saturday’s report.

With the more than 8,500 new cases reported Saturday, the state has seen a total of 367,987 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. since the pandemic began in the commonwealth back in March 2020. Currently, there are an estimated 79,092 active cases of COVID-19 in the state.

Additionally, DPH reported that 79 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 12,236.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Saturday that 101,394 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 11,046,093 molecular tests given out for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 8.67% on Saturday as well.
