Mass. reports 6,887 new COVID-19 cases, 81 more deaths

Massachusetts’ COVID-19 numbers continue to rise, according to the state Department of Public Health.

State health officials reported 6,887 new cases of coronavirus, up from 6,135 cases reported on Wednesday.

The number of deaths of persons with confirmed cases of the virus went down slightly: 81 new deaths were reported on Thursday, while a whopping 118 new deaths were reported on Wednesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has seen 359,445 total confirmed cases of the virus in the state.

There are currently 80,359 active cases of coronavirus in Massachusetts. Four deaths of people with probably cases of the virus were also reported Thursday. Statewide to date, 12,157 people with confirmed cases of the virus have died.

As of Wednesday, 2,271 people remained hospitalized with the virus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 417 were in the intensive care unit and 240 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 95,827 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, a total of 10,944,699 molecular tests have been administered for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 8.60% on Wednesday, up from 8.44% on Wednesday.

Mass. reports 6,135 new COVID-19 cases, 118 more deaths

Massachusetts saw a surge in new COVID-19 cases and virus-related deaths on Wednesday, according to the state Department of Public Health.

State health officials reported 6,135 new cases of coronavirus, up from 3,659 cases reported on Tuesday.

And the number of deaths of persons with confirmed cases of the virus doubled in one day: 118 new deaths were reported on Wednesday, up from 58 deaths reported on Tuesday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has seen 352,558 total confirmed cases of the virus in the state.

There are currently 78,810 active cases of coronavirus in Massachusetts. Two deaths of people with probably cases of the virus were also reported Wednesday. Statewide to date, 12,076 people with confirmed cases of the virus have died.

As of Wednesday, 2,257 people remained hospitalized with the virus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 433 were in the intensive care unit and 231 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 86,050 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, a total of 10,848,872 molecular tests have been administered for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 8.44% on Wednesday, up from 7.58% on Tuesday, and up from 6.68% on Monday.

Mass. reports 3,659 new COVID-19 cases, 58 deaths

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 3,659 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, along with 58 deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the state has seen 346,423 total confirmed cases of the virus in the state.

There are currently 78,215 active cases of coronavirus in Massachusetts. Two deaths of people with probably cases of the virus were also reported Tuesday. Statewide to date, 11,958 people with confirmed cases of the virus have died.

As of Tuesday, 2,259 people remained hospitalized with the virus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 431 were in the intensive care unit and 225 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 49,229 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began, a total of 10,762,822 molecular tests have been administered for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 7.58% on Tuesday, up from 6.68% on Monday.

Number of new COVID-19 cases in state jumps to 4,060

The number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts jumped to 4,060, nearly 1,100 more than were reported yesterday, the state’s Department of Public Health announced on Monday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Mass. has seen 342,764 total confirmed cases of the virus in the state, including an estimated 80,620 active ones.

Additionally, the state reported that 48 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 11,900.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 49,772 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Mass., the state has given out 10,713,593 molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 6.68% on Monday.

State reports 100 new COVID-19 deaths, nearly 3,000 new confirmed cases

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Sunday that 100 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the state among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 11,852.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 2,973 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Sunday. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Mass., there have been 338,704 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, including an estimated 78,688 active ones.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health announced that 41,331 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the pandemic began in Massachusetts, the state has seen 10,663,821 molecular tests given out for the coronavirus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests fell to 6.28% on Sunday.

More than 7,000 new cases of COVID-19 reported in MA after no updates released on Christmas Day

Note: On Christmas Day, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health did not update their daily COVID-19 dashboard. Today’s latest coronavirus statistics in the state are a combination of the new numbers reported today and those that would’ve been reported yesterday.

The state’s Department of Public Health reported on Saturday that there are 7,424 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, pushing the total number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. since the beginning of the outbreak to 335,731. Currently, there are an estimated 78,086 active cases in the state.

Additionally, DPH reported that 46 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Mass., the state has seen 11,752 fatalities among people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, the Department of Public Health reported that 108,445 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. In total, Mass. has seen 10,622,490 molecular tests given out for the coronavirus since the outbreak began in March.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose Saturday to 6.32%, an increase from the 5.76% reported Thursday.

Mass. DPH unveils COVID-19 vaccine dashboard

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health unveiled a new COVID-19 vaccine dashboard on Thursday to update the commonwealth on the status of vaccine distributions and injections throughout Mass.

In total, 35,618 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the commonwealth - all of which have been first doses for vaccines that require patients to receive two doses.

Of those doses administered, 15,681 have been given to people ages 30-49, the largest amount administered to any age group. For people ages 50-69, 13,235 doses have been administered, while 5,896 doses have been administered to 20-29-year-olds.

The vast majority of those who have received doses of either vaccine have been hospital workers, who were administered 26,332 doses in total.

As of Thursday, 146,675 total cumulative doses have been shipped to Massachusetts; of those doses shipped, 59,475 have been from Pfizer while 87,200 have been from Cambridge-based Moderna.

Currently, Suffolk County has received the majority of those doses shipped, with 50,075 received by the county. Middlesex County received 28,850 doses, Worcester County received 15,975 doses, and Essex County received 13,200 doses.

State sees 5,655 new cases, 76 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Thursday that there are 5,655 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Massachusetts, the commonwealth has seen 328,307 total cases of the coronavirus in the state, including an estimated 80,800 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported Thursday that 76 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who have had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 11,706.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 114,476 new molecular tests have been administered for COVID-19 in Mass. In total, the state has given out 10,514,045 molecular tests for the coronavirus since the outbreak began in Mass.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests decreased to 5.76% on Thursday.

Wednesday, December 23

Mass. DPH reports 4,509 new cases, 81 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Wednesday that 81 more people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died, nearly double the amount of the 43 deaths reported by the state on Tuesday. There are 4,509 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, as the state also saw a notable increase in tests administered over Tuesday.

Two deaths of individuals with a probable case of the virus were also reported Wednesday. The total number of deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus in Massachusetts is now 11,630.

As of Wednesday, there are an estimated 81,112 active cases of the virus in Massachusetts. Of these confirmed cases, 2,066 people remained hospitalized in Massachusetts, up from 2,004 hospitalized on Tuesday. Of patients hospitalized Wednesday, 409 were in the intensive care unit and 226 remained intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Tuesday that 97,655 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19, up from 62,078 tests administered as reported on Tuesday. Since the beginning of the outbreak, Massachusetts has seen 10,399,569 molecular tests given out for the virus.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, the state has seen 322,652 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests decreased slightly to 5.92% on Wednesday, down from 5.98% on Tuesday.

Mass. DPH reports 3,293 new cases, 43 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that there are 3,293 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, as the state saw a slight increase in tests administered over Monday. Since the beginning of the outbreak, the state has seen 318,143 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including an estimated 82,303 active cases.

Also, DPH reported on Tuesday that 43 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Two deaths of individuals with a probable case of the virus were also reported Tuesday. The total number of deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus in Massachusetts is now 11,549.

As of Tuesday, 2,004 people with confirmed cases of the virus remained hospitalized in Massachusetts, up from 1,991 hospitalized on Monday. Of patients hospitalized Tuesday, 412 were in the intensive care unit and 233 remained intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Tuesday that 62,078 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19, up from 61,067 tests administered as reported on Monday. Mass. DPH reports 3,760 new cases, 41 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health reported Monday that there are 3,760 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts, as the state saw a decrease in tests administered over previous days. Since the beginning of the outbreak, the state has seen 314,850 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including an estimated 84,368 active cases.

Also, DPH reported on Monday that 41 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, down from 60 deaths reported on Sunday. One death of a person with a probable case of the virus was also reported Monday. The total number of deaths among people with confirmed cases of the virus in Massachusetts is now 11,506.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported Saturday that there are 3,995 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. Since the beginning of the outbreak in the state, Mass. has seen 306,928 total confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including an estimated 81,282 active ones.

The state also reported that 47 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in Mass. among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 11,405.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 80,214 more molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19. Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, DPH has reported that 10,087,980 molecular tests have been given out in the state.

DPH: State surpasses 300,000 total COVID-19 cases

The state reports another grim milestone Friday as public health data shows there have been more than 302,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. The state reports another 5,632 cases Friday. There are now believed to be 80,989 active cases in the state.

The state is seeing an increase in testing as the holidays near. DPH reports 106,034 new tests Friday, up from 92,000 Thursday.

DPH reports 45 deaths Friday, with the average age of those deaths being 81 years old. 11,358 people have now died in Massachusetts from COVID-19.

There are currently 1,874 people hospitalized with the virus; 370 in ICU.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests increased from Thursday’s 6.02% to 6.13%.

Newly reported cases and deaths have decreased

There are 4,985 newly reported confirmed cases of coronavirus across Massachusetts, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. That is a decrease of 465 cases compared to Wednesday. The state has seen 297,301 total confirmed cases, with 76,215 estimated active cases.

Massachusetts reported 44 new deaths, which is 27 fewer than Wednesday. 11,305 people in Massachusetts have died from confirmed cases since March.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests also decreased from 6.03% on Wednesday to 6.02% on Thursday.

Massachusetts reported 92,627 new molecular tests reported, totaling 9,901,732 tests administered across the state since March.

Wednesday, Dec. 16

New cases, deaths and tests all increase

The state’s Department of Public Health reported on Wednesday that there are 5,450 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, an increase of more than 1,700 new cases from Tuesday’s 3,720 latest confirmed cases of the virus. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Massachusetts, the state has seen 292,316 total confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including an estimated 74,212 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported Wednesday that 71 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people who had confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 11,261.

DPH announces that new cases, tests & deaths all see increases

The Mass. Department of Public Health announced on Tuesday that there are 3,720 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, a slight increase from Monday’s new cases total. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Mass., there have been 286,866 total confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the commonwealth, including an estimated 72,587 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 55 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, an 18-death increase from yesterday’s new total. Since the pandemic first began in Mass., 11,190 people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH said that 61,236 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19, just over 5,000 more tests than were reported Monday. In total, the state has seen 9,684,933 molecular tests given out for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

New COVID-19 cases, deaths decrease for second day in a row

For the second day in a row, the state’s Department of Public Health announced that the numbers of new COVID-19 cases and new fatalities have decreased. Mass. DPH announced in their Monday dashboard of COVID-19 statistics that there are 3,572 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state, a more than 1,000-case decrease from Sunday’s new case number.

Since the beginning of the outbreak in Massachusetts, there have been 283,146 total confirmed cases of the virus in the state, including an estimated 72,883 active ones.

Additionally, DPH announced that 37 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of people who have died in Mass. with confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 11,135.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Monday, DPH reported that 56,122 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19. In total, 9,623,697 molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth since the beginning of the outbreak.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests jumped to 5.71% on Monday.

Mass. sees decreases in numbers of new COVID-19 cases, deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Sunday that there are 4,677 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts. Those new cases represent a nearly 300-case decrease from Saturday’s number of new cases.

Since the outbreak began in Massachusetts, there have been 279,574 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, including an estimated 70,651 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 41 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, a decrease from the 47 new fatalities reported Saturday. In total, 11,098 people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers Sunday, DPH announced that 90,256 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for COVID-19, pushing the total number of those tests given out in the state since the outbreak began to 9,567,575.

DPH reports 4,968 new COVID-19 cases, 47 new deaths

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Saturday that there are 4,968 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass., according to the state’s daily dashboard of COVID-19 statistics. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Mass., there have been 274,897 total confirmed cases of the virus in the commonwealth, including an estimated 67,754 active ones.

Additionally, the state reported that 47 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the virus to 11,057.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced that 99,719 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass., pushing the total number of tests to be given out in the commonwealth since the beginning of the outbreak to 9,477,319.

Friday, December 11

State surpasses 11,000 COVID-19 deaths

The state marks a somber milestone Friday as public health data reveals 11,010 people have died in the Commonwealth from COVID-19.

The state reports 5,475 new COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts on Friday. The number of active cases grows to 65,741.

Mass. reported another 99,181 tests administered, according to Friday’s data, bringing the state closer to surpassing 10 million total tests administered; there have been 9,377,600 tests performed, according to state data.

Currently, there are 1,605 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in the state, 309 in the ICU.

The 7-day average positive rate slightly increased from Thursday to 5.72%.

Thursday, December 10

State sees decrease in new cases, deaths after Wednesday

The state reports 5,130 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts on Thursday. The state estimates there ate 63,362 active cases in Massachusetts. Since March, there have been over 264,000 confirmed cases in the state.

The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is at 5.67%, down from Wednesday.

According to DPH data, 41 people died from the virus Thursday, down from Wednesday’s 89 reported deaths. The average age of deaths is 82 years old. In total, the state has reported 10,963 confirmed deaths.

Currently, 1,607 people are hospitalized in Mass. with the virus; 307 are in ICU.

Wednesday, December 9

Number of new COVID-19 cases jumps to 5,675

The number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts has climbed to 5,675 on Wednesday, the highest new total since Dec. 3 and more than a 2,000-case increase from yesterday, according to the state’s Department of Public Health. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Massachusetts, there have been 259,324 total confirmed cases in the commonwealth, including an estimated 61,181 active ones.

Additionally, Mass. DPH announced that 89 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, more than double the number of fatalities reported yesterday. In total, 10,922 people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus since the outbreak began.

The state also reported a large uptick in their daily testing numbers for COVID-19. DPH announced that 109,009 new molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth for the virus, nearly double the amount reported yesterday. In total, 9,181,066 molecular tests have been given out in the state since the beginning of the outbreak.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose again Wednesday, increasing slightly to 5.86%.

Tuesday, December 8

State sees increases in new cases, deaths as testing numbers increase

One day after Massachusetts saw drops in several important categories of new COVID-19 data, the state’s Department of Public Health reported Tuesday that the number of new cases, tests and deaths have again risen. DPH announced that there are 3,627 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, pushing the total number of confirmed cases of the virus in the commonwealth to 253,649, including an estimated 58,601 active ones.

That’s nearly 1,200 more new cases than were announced yesterday.

Additionally, DPH announced that 40 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of fatalities among people with confirmed cases of the virus in the state to 10,8333.

The state also saw an increase in the number of new molecular tests administered as of Tuesday, with 58,501 given out in the state, DPH announced. Since the outbreak began in Mass., 9,072,057 molecular tests have been administered in the state.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests rose to 5.81% on Tuesday as well.

Monday, December 7

New COVID-19 cases, tests & deaths drop Monday

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Monday that there are 2,463 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, a stark drop from the last few days, which have seen more than 4,500 new cases each day in Mass. since December 1. That brings the total number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state to 250,022, including an estimated 58,452 active ones.

Additionally, DPH reported that 43,304 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19, less than half of the 89,439 tests given out on Sunday. In total, 9,013,556 molecular tests have been administered in the commonwealth since the beginning of the outbreak.

Mass. DPH also announced that 30 more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the commonwealth among people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 10,793.

Number of new COVID-19 cases fall to 4,747 while new deaths increase

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Sunday that there are 4,747 new cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth. That follows three consecutive days of new case numbers above 5,000. In total, there have been 247,559 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. since the outbreak began, including an estimated 57,304 active ones.

Mass. DPH also reported that 48 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of fatalities in the state among people with confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 10,763.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Sunday that 89,439 new molecular tests have been administered in Mass. for COVID-19, bringing the total amount of molecular tests given out in the state for the virus to 8,970,252.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests declined slightly Sunday, dropping to 5.34%.

5,356 new COVID-19 cases reported in Mass. as state sees 41 new deaths

Massachusetts has seen more than 5,000 new cases of COVID-19 for the third consecutive day as the state’s Department of Public Health reported that there are 5,356 new cases of the coronavirus in the commonwealth as of Saturday. Since the outbreak began, Mass. has seen 242,812 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, including an estimated 54,199 active ones.

The state also reported that 41 more people in Mass. have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of people in the commonwealth who have died while having confirmed cases of the virus to 10,715.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced that 106,116 new molecular tests have been administered in the state for COVID-19. In total, 8,880,813 molecular tests have been given out in Mass. since the beginning of the outbreak.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests dipped slightly on Saturday, moving to 5.40%.

DPH reports 5,192 cases, 37 new deaths

For the second day in a row, new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Massachusetts surpassed 5,000, the state Department of Public Health said in its daily report.

A total of 5,192 new cases was reported on Friday, after 6,477 new cases were reported on Thursday, when the DPH reported a record number of COVID-19 cases.

The total number of cases of coronavirus in the state is now at 237,456. The state estimates there are about 51,371 active cases of the virus.

Health officials also said 37 more deaths from the virus have been reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10,674.

The average positivity rate has also increased, from 5.29% on Thursday to 5.44% on Friday.

Currently, 1,394 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 278 patients in the intensive care unit and 134 are intubated.

Health data also shows the average age of those infected by COVID-19 is currently 68, while the average age of those who die from the virus remains at 81.

The age group that leads the state among cases of coronavirus -- with 6,876 cases as of Friday -- remains people between the ages of 20 to 29 years old.

DPH reports record number of COVID-19 cases

On Thursday, the state’s Department of Public Health reported a record number of COVID-19 cases as local communities continue to struggle to contain the spread of the virus.

A total of 6,477 new cases was reported today, but 680 of those were delayed cases tested by one Massachusetts-based laboratory prior to December 1. However, even by subtracting those 680 cases, the total number of cases actually reported in a single day in Massachusetts was the highest its ever been. The delay in reporting was caused by a technical issue with the software used by that laboratory’s reporting vendor.

The total number of cases of the novel coronavirus in the state is now at 232,264. The state estimates there are about 49,225 active cases of the virus.

Health officials also said 49 more deaths from the virus have been reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 10,637.

The average positivity rate has also jumped significantly, going from 4.94% Wednesday to 5.29% on Thursday. Currently, 1,324 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19, where 261 are in the ICU and 137 are intubated.

Health data also shows the average age of those infected by COVID-19 is currently 68, while the average age of those who die from the virus remains at 81.

Wednesday, December 2

Number of new cases, deaths from COVID-19 continues to increase

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the state announced 4,613 new COVID-19 cases and 46 additional deaths from the virus, an alarming number amid rising statistics. Health data also shows the average positivity rate has jumped from 4.61% on Tuesday to nearly 5% on Wednesday.

Officials with the Department of Public Health also announced 105,845 more molecular tests were administered, bringing the total number of tests conducted to 8,566,262.

The state estimates there are about 45,390 active cases of the virus currently while 1,259 people are hospitalized. The average age of COVID-19 patients is 68 while the average age of those who die from the virus is 81.

Currently, 264 COVID-19 patients are in the ICU while 126 are intubated.

So far, the virus has killed 10,588 people locally while the state has registered 225,787 total infections since the outbreak first began in March.

Tuesday, December 1

Positive test rate for COVID-19 testing jumps to 4.61% Tuesday

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests jumped to 4.61% on Tuesday, up from 3.93% on Monday afternoon, Mass. DPH reported in their daily COVID-19 statistics dashboard. That rise in the rate of new positive tests goes along with the 2,845 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 that Mass. DPH reported in the state on Tuesday - more than double yesterday’s total.

Since the beginning of the outbreak, Massachusetts has seen 221,174 total confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state, including an estimated 43,601 active ones.

The number of new tests administered for COVID-19 in the commonwealth also increased by more than double Monday’s total, as DPH reported that 59,832 new molecular tests were given out in the state compared to 29,195 yesterday.

In total there have been 8,460,417 molecular tests administered in the state since the outbreak began in Mass.

Additionally, DPH reported Tuesday that 30 more people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of people who have died in Mass. while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 10,542.
