DPH reports number of new COVID-19 deaths drops to 5 while new daily case number close to monthly high

One day after the state reported the highest number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the month, the number of newly reported confirmed cases of the coronavirus dropped slightly to 821, just six cases shy of yesterday’s high. The relatively steady number of new cases over the last two days has increased the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state to 142,295.

While the number of new confirmed cases remained relatively steady, the number of new COVID-19-related deaths in the commonwealth has dropped down to five new fatalities, one-third of yesterday’s total. Since the beginning of the outbreak in Mass., 9,537 people have died from the coronavirus, DPH reported.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Tuesday that 17,238 new people were given molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,549,525 people in the state have taken a combined 5,306,041 molecular tests.

The state’s seven-day weighted average of positive molecular tests remained at 1.3% while the percentage of all tested individuals who have been positive jumped to 6.2% after yesterday’s rise in confirmed cases.

The state also reported Tuesday that 371 new individuals were administered antibody tests for the coronavirus. In total 124,711 people in Mass. have been given that type of test for COVID-19.

Monday, October 19

State reports 15 new fatalities from COVID-19, 827 more confirmed cases

As the number of COVID-19 cases and fatalities grows across the world, Massachusetts reported 15 new deaths related to the virus and another 827 more confirmed cases. Monday’s dashboard shows the new number of confirmed cases is the highest its been this month.

The news comes as the Department of Public Health announced 17,654 more people were tested for COVID-19 via molecular tests and 186 were tested for antibodies of the virus. So far, 2,532,287 people were tested by molecular tests, where a total of 5,239,651 have been administered, and 124,340 people in total have been tested for antibodies.

Since the outbreak began locally, 9,532 people have died after contracting the novel coronavirus and a total of 141,474 have been infected - a number officials say could be much higher as they encourage more people to get tested.

Currently, zero hospitals in the area are at surge capacity as the three-day average of number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized has plateaued for the past 10 days.

Health officials say 500 people are currently hospitalized after contracting the virus, where 86 cases are currently in the ICU and 33 have been intubated.

When it comes to nursing homes and long-term care facilities, a total of 25,301 confirmed or probable cases have been reported among residents and staff members. DPH officials attributed 6,288 deaths within those facilities to probable or confirmed cases of COVID-19.

DPH announces 14 new COVID-19 deaths, 744 additional confirmed cases

Mass. DPH announced that 744 more people in the commonwealth have confirmed cases of COVID-19, the department reported Sunday afternoon. That pushes the total number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. since the outbreak began to 140,647.

Additionally, the state announced that 14 more people have died from the virus in Massachusetts. In total, 9,517 people in the commonwealth have died from COVID-19, per DPH.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Sunday that 15,588 new people have been administered molecular tests for COVID-19 in Mass. In total, 2,514,633 people in the state have taken a combined 5,168,943 molecular tests.

The state’s positive test rate for COVID-19 fell to 1.2% Sunday as well.

DPH also reported that 186 new individuals have taken antibody tests for COVID-19, pushing the total number of people who have taken that type of test in the commonwealth to 124,154.

Saturday, October 17

State reports 21 new COVID-19 deaths, 550 additional confirmed cases

The state’s death toll from COVID-19 has eclipsed 9,500 people on Saturday after Mass. DPH reported 21 new fatalities from the virus in Massachusetts. That pushes the total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the commonwealth to 9,503 people.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 550 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts. In total, there have been 139,903 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state since the outbreak began.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced that 12,395 new people in Mass. have taken molecular tests for the virus since DPH’s latest update. In total, 2,499,045 people in the commonwealth have taken 5,088,797 molecular tests for COVID-19.

The state’s positive-test rate was listed at 1.3%, per DPH.

Additionally, the state announced that 75 more people in the commonwealth have received antibody tests for COVID-19, pushing the total number of people in Mass. who have taken that type of test to 123,968.

Friday, October 16

DPH reports 30 new COVID-19 deaths, 702 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Friday that 30 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new fatalities push the total number of deaths in the state from the virus to 9,482.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 702 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Friday, a notable increase from Thursday’s 568 new cases. There have been 139,353 total confirmed cases in Massachusetts since the beginning of the outbreak in the state.

Two hospitals in the state reported using surge capacity. On Friday, 513 people remained hospitalized with coronavirus in Massachusetts. Of these patients, 77 were in the intensive care unit and 33 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Friday that 14,962 new individuals in the state have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,486,650 people statewide have taken a combined 5,012,963 molecular tests.

The state’s average positive-test rate increased to 1.4%, up from 1.3% on Thursday.

In addition to its molecular test update, the Department of Public Health announced that 321 new people have taken antibody tests for COVID-19 in the state. In total 123,893 people have taken that type of test in Mass.

DPH announces 23 new COVID-19 deaths, 568 additional confirmed cases

On Thursday, the state’s Department of Public Health announced 23 new deaths related to COVID-19 cases and another 568 additional infections. Another two deaths from people with probable cases of the virus were reported.

Statewide, 503 people remain hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those patients, 92 are currently in the intensive care unit and 34 remain intubated. The state reported two hospitals are operating at surge capacity.

The state’s positive-test rate remained at 1.3 percent on Thursday.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, health officials announced 14,737 more people were tested by molecular tests. In total, 2,471,688 people in the state have taken a combined 4,955,322 molecular tests. Another 236 people have been tested for antibodies, bringing the total number of people tested via that method to 123,572.

Since the outbreak started locally, 9,452 people with confirmed cases of coronavirus have died in Massachusetts, while 138,651 have been infected by the virus.

DPH announces 16 new COVID-19 deaths, 518 additional cases as average positivity rate goes up

On Wednesday, the state’s Department of Public Health announced 16 new deaths related to COVID-19 cases and another 518 additional infections.

The new data from Massachusetts public health officials highlights an uptick in how many COVID-19 tests are coming back positive. The daily positivity rate for Wednesday was reported to be at 4.3%, while the seven-day average increased to 1.3%, a 0.1% uptick from Tuesday.

Health officials announced 13,057 more people were tested by molecular tests, bringing the total number of people tested via that method to 2,456,951 - yet 4,896,199 total molecular tests have been administered. Another 247 people have been tested for antibodies, bringing the total number of people tested via that method to 123,336.

Currently, 499 COVID-19 cases had to be hospitalized, where 88 cases are currently in the ICU and 28 remain intubated. The state reports only three hospital are operating at surge capacity at the moment.

Since the outbreak started locally, 9,429 people have died after contracting the novel coronavirus while 138,083 have been infected by it.

A new town-by-town breakdown of COVID-19 infections across the state has placed over 60 communities in the “red zone," meaning more towns and cities are now considered at higher risk for contracting the virus.

State announces 12 new COVID-19 deaths, 632 additional confirmed cases

The death toll in Massachusetts from the COVID-19 pandemic has increased to 9,413 on Tuesday as the state reported that 12 more people in Mass. have died from the virus, according to the latest report issued by the Department of Public Health.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 632 newly confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state. That means, in total, there are or have been 137,565 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Massachusetts since the outbreak began.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 13,744 new people in the commonwealth have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,443,894 people in Mass. have taken a combined 4,857,515 molecular tests for the virus.

The state’s positive-test rate rose to 1.2% on Tuesday, a 0.1% increase from Monday’s initial rate and a 0.2% increase from Sunday’s initial rate. However, DPH did amend their positive-test rate numbers on Tuesday, instead showing that the state has been at a 1.2% positive-test rate since Friday, October 9.

DPH also reported on Tuesday that 107 new individuals have taken antibody tests for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, 123,089 people have been administered that type of test for the coronavirus.

Monday, October 12

DPH reports 13 new COVID-19 deaths, 765 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Monday that 13 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new fatalities push the total number of deaths in Massachusetts from the virus to 9,401.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 765 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Monday, a notable increase from Sunday’s 570 new cases. There have been 136,933 total confirmed cases in Massachusetts since the beginning of the outbreak in the state.

Statewide, 501 people remained hospitalized with the virus on Monday. Of those patients, 82 remained in the intensive care unit while 32 were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Monday that 18,801 new individuals in the state have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,430,150 people in the state have taken a combined 4,815,399 molecular tests.

The state’s positive-test rate went back up to 1.1 percent on Monday, up from 1 percent on Sunday.

In addition to its molecular test update, the Department of Public Health announced that 139 new people have taken antibody tests for COVID-19 in the state. In total 122,982 people have taken that type of test in Mass.

DPH reports 16 new COVID-19 deaths, 570 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Sunday that 16 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in the state from the virus to 9,388.

In addition, the state reported one probable death from coronavirus on Sunday.

DPH reported that there are 570 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Sunday, a slight decrease from Saturday’s 587 new cases. There have been 136,168 total confirmed cases in Massachusetts since the beginning of the outbreak in the state.

Two hospitals reported using surge capacity; 511 people remained hospitalized in Massachusetts with coronavirus on Sunday. Of these patients, 85 remained in the intensive care unit while 29 patients were intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Sunday that 15,797 new individuals in the state have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,411,349 people in the state have taken a combined 4,748,004 molecular tests.

The state’s positive-test rate dropped slightly to 1 percent.

DPH reports 10 new COVID-19 deaths, 587 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Saturday that 10 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of deaths in the state from the virus to 9,372.

DPH reports 12 new COVID-19 deaths, 734 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Friday that 12 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new fatalities push the total number of deaths in the state from the virus to 9,362.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 734 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Friday, a spike from Thursday’s 409 new cases. That means there have been 135,011 total confirmed cases in Massachusetts since the beginning of the outbreak in the state.

State COVID-19 data released Friday came after the World Health Organization announced a new daily record high in coronavirus cases confirmed worldwide, with more than 350,000 infections reported to the U.N. health agency on Friday.

DPH reports 8 new COVID-19 deaths, 409 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Thursday that eight more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new fatalities, which are half the 19 reported on Wednesday, push the total number of deaths in Massachusetts from the virus to 9,350.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 409 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Thursday, a slight decrease from Wednesday’s 509 new cases. That means there have been 134,277 total confirmed cases in Massachusetts since the beginning of the outbreak in the state.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Thursday that 14,035 new individuals in the state have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,360,825 people in the Commonwealth have taken combined 4,541,516 molecular tests.

The state’s positive-test rate on Thursday was reported at 1 percent.

DPH reports 19 new COVID-19 deaths, 509 additional confirmed cases in state

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Wednesday evening that 19 more people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new fatalities, which are more than double the eight reported on Tuesday, push the total number of deaths in the commonwealth from the virus to 9,342.

Additionally, DPH reported that there are 509 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state as of Wednesday, a slight uptick from Tuesday’s 454 new cases. That means there have been 133,868 total confirmed cases in Massachusetts since the beginning of the outbreak in the state.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Wednesday that 16,134 new individuals in the state have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,346,790 people in the commonwealth have taken a combined 4,478,131 molecular tests.

The state’s positive-test rate again remained at its monthly high of 1.1%.

Tuesday, October 6

New COVID-19 deaths see steep decrease while additional confirmed cases see slight drop

Mass. DPH announced on Tuesday that eight more people in the state have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. Those new fatalities are a significant decrease from Monday’s total of 20 new deaths and push the total number of COVID-19 fatalities in the commonwealth to 9,323.

Additionally, the state announced that there are 454 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts as of Tuesday. A slight decrease from Monday’s number of new cases, Tuesday’s additional cases push the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state to 133,359.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 12,785 new people in Mass. have been administered molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,330,656 individuals in Massachusetts have taken a combined 4,416,428 molecular tests.

The state’s positive-test rate remained at its monthly high of 1.1%.

Additionally, 156 new people were given antibody tests for the coronavirus, DPH announced. That means, in total, that 121,620 people in the commonwealth have received that type of test for COVID-19.

Monday, October 5

DPH reports 20 new COVID-19 deaths, 465 additional cases

A recent report from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health found 20 more people died after contracting COVID-19 and another 465 were infected by the virus as of Monday, Oct. 5.

Though the number of fatalities has oscillated for the past couple of days, the number of cases of the novel coronavirus overall continues to climb, leaving residents uneasy as parts of the state advanced onto the next step of the reopening plan last week. As of Monday, however, the number of confirmed cases was lower than what was reported over the weekend.

As of Monday, 11,265 more people were tested by molecular tests, bringing the total up to 2,317,871. Sixty-seven more people were tested for antibodies, brining the total number of people tested for them to 121,464.

Since the outbreak began locally, 9,315 people have died and 132,905 were confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. The average positive test rate has also increased recently after dipping below 1% for a couple of weeks, leaving people hopeful we were not headed into a potential second surge of the virus.

Of those infected with the virus, 473 remain hospitalized, where 88 are in the ICU and 33 are currently intubated.

Sunday, October 4

Number of new COVID-19 deaths drop to 3 while additional cases see increase

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Sunday that three more people have died in the commonwealth while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. That pushes the total number of fatalities from the virus in the state to 9,295 since the outbreak began.

Those three new deaths are nearly one-sixth of the 17 new fatalities announced Saturday.

But while the number of new deaths has decreased since yesterday, the number of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 has increased to 626.

Those new cases mean that, in total, there have been 132,440 total confirmed cases in Mass. since the outbreak began.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH announced Sunday that 18,981 new people have taken molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,306,606 individuals in Mass. have taken a combined 4,334,501 molecular tests.

The state’s positive-test rate remained at its monthly high of 1.1% as well.

Additionally, 319 new people have taken antibody tests for the virus in Mass. That means that, in total, 121,397 people in the state have taken that type of test for COVID-19.

Saturday, October 3

State announces 17 new COVID-19 deaths and 600 additional positive cases

Mass. DPH announced on Saturday afternoon that 17 new people in the commonwealth have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19. That pushes the total number of fatalities in the state from the virus to 9,292 people.

Additionally, DPH reported that 600 new people in Mass. have been diagnosed with confirmed cases of COVID-19, pushing the total number of people in the state who have had or currently have confirmed cases of the coronavirus to 131,814.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported Saturday that 13,813 new individuals have taken molecular tests for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, 2,287,625 people have taken a combined 4,265,786 molecular tests for the virus. The state’s positive test rate for coronavirus remained at its monthly high of 1.1%.

Additionally, DPH announced that 101 new people were administered antibody tests for COVID-19 in Massachusetts. In total, 121,078 people in the commonwealth have taken that type of test for the coronavirus.

Friday, October 2

DPH reports 10 new COVID-19 deaths, 753 new infections

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Friday there were 10 new confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 and another 753 confirmed cases.

There have been 9,275 confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 in Massachusetts since the outbreak began locally, with a total of 131,214 confirmed cases reported to date.

Three hospitals in the state reported using surge capacity on Friday.

Currently, 421 people are currently hospitalized with coronavirus, with 79 in the intensive care unit and 34 patients currently intubated.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, 21,451 new people had been tested by molecular tests, bringing the total number of people receiving that test to 2,273,812.

As of Friday, 392 new people had been tested for antibodies, bringing the total number of people to do so to 120,977.

Thursday, October 1

DPH reports 23 new COVID-19 deaths, 708 new infections

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Thursday there were 23 new confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 and another 708 confirmed cases. That’s up from 510 new cases reported on Wednesday.

There have been 9,265 confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 in Massachusetts since the outbreak began locally, with a total of 130,461 confirmed cases reported to date.

One more person with a probable case of the virus has also died, bringing the total number of deaths from probable cases of coronavirus to 215, DPH reported Thursday.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, 18,159 new people had been tested by molecular tests, bringing the total number of people receiving that test to 2,252,361.

Six hospitals in the state reported using surge capacity on Thursday.

Currently, 436 people are currently hospitalized with coronavirus, with 84 in the intensive care unit and 32 patients currently intubated.

As of Thursday, 167 new people had been tested for antibodies, bringing the total number of people to do so to 120,585.

Wednesday, September 30

DPH reports 32 new COVID-19 deaths, 510 new infections

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Wednesday there were 32 new confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 and another 510 confirmed cases. That’s significantly higher than Tuesday, when 8 deaths connected to the virus were reported.

There have been 9,242 confirmed deaths related to COVID-19 in Massachusetts since the outbreak began locally, with a total of 129,753 confirmed cases reported to date.

One more person with a probable case of the virus has also died, bringing the total number of deaths from probable cases of coronavirus to 214, DPH reported Wednesday.

When it comes to testing, the state has administered more than 4 million molecular tests. As of Wednesday’s report, 14,404 new people had been tested, bringing the total number to 4,050,617. DPH officials estimate 2,234,202 people have been tested for the virus so far.

Six hospitals in the state reported using surge capacity on Wednesday.

Currently, 438 people are currently hospitalized with coronavirus, with 89 in the intensive care unit and 29 patients currently intubated.

As of Wednesday, 285 new people had been tested for antibodies, bringing the total number of people to do so to 120,418.

Tuesday, September 29

DPH reports 8 new COVID-19 deaths, 450 new infections as positivity rate back at 1% for the first time in weeks

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Tuesday there were eight new fatalities related to COVID-19 and another 450 confirmed cases. Also on Tuesday, the average positive test rate jumped back to 1% after weeks of dipping below that value.

When it comes to testing, the state has administered close to 4 million molecular tests, where as of Tuesday’s report 14,124 new people had been tested, bringing the total number to 3,988,224. DPH officials estimate 2,219,798 people have been tested for the virus so far.

There have been 9,210 deaths from COVID-19 in Massachusetts since the outbreak began locally, where a total of 129,243 people have contracted the virus.

For about a week, only two hospitals in the state have been operating at surge capacity.

Currently, 444 people are hospitalized after being infected with the novel coronavirus, where 107 are in the ICU and 27 are intubated.

As of Tuesday, 146 new people had been tested for antibodies, bringing the total number of people to do so to 120,133.

Monday, September 28

Mass. DPH reports 11 new COVID-19 deaths, 367 new confirmed cases

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Monday that there are 367 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. That number is a decrease from Sunday, when the number of new confirmed cases grew to 594.

Since the outbreak began in the state, there have been 128,793 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. Of those cases, 9,202 have been fatal, after DPH announced that 11 more people have died with confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

That number of new deaths is a slight decrease from Sunday’s total of 13 new fatalities.

Two hospitals reported using surge capacity, and 418 people are currently hospitalized in Massachusetts with the virus.

Also Monday, in an update to the state’s testing numbers, Mass. DPH reported that the total number of molecular tests for COVID-19 administered to date is approaching the 4 million mark. On Monday, a total of 13,049 new people in the state were administered molecular tests for COVID-19. In total, 2,205,674 people in the state have taken a combined 3,931,219 molecular tests.

Additionally, the state announced that 52 new people have been administered antibody tests for COVID-19 in Mass. as of Monday. In total, 119,987 people in Massachusetts have taken that type of test for the virus.

Number of new COVID-19 cases continues increase as new deaths see dip

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Sunday that there are 594 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, a monthly high. Those new cases push the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. to 128,426 since the beginning of the outbreak.

Mas. DPH reports 18 new confirmed COVID-19 deaths, 515 additional cases

An additional 18 people have died in the state while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, the Mass. Department of Public Health announced on Saturday afternoon. Since the COVID-19 outbreak began in the commonwealth, 9,178 people have died while having confirmed cases of the virus.

The state also announced Saturday 515 newly confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts. Those new cases push the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth to 127,832.

Massachusetts' positive-test rate also saw a slight uptick in Saturday’s release, increasing from 0.8% to 0.9%.

State reports 10 new COVID-19 deaths, 454 additional cases

On Friday, the state’s Department of Public Health announced 10 more people have died after contracting the novel coronavirus and another 454 who have tested positive. So far, 9,160 people have died from COVID-19 and there have been 127,317 confirmed cases.

DPH officials also reported 15,854 more people have been tested by molecular tests, bringing the total number of people tested in the state of Massachusetts to 2,160,250. So far, 3,706,728 tests have been administered. As for antibodies, 285 more people have been tested by the antibody test, where the total number of people tested is now at 119,449.

The average positive test rate has now under 1% for three whole weeks, where the state saw a decline in the percentage of people who tested positive for the novel coronavirus since the beginning of September.

A new report issued by the CDC this week found that cases of COVID-19 in people under 40 exploded during summer months. As spring melted into summer, infections in the U.S. shifted massively to those under age 40, jumping from 39.8% in May to more than 50% in July and August - but those infections did not end with the younger demographic.

Regional outbreaks in the Southern part of the country found that adults aged 20-39 likely played a key role in spreading the COVID-19 in their communities, including to older adults.

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Thursday that there are 455 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state. That number is a slight decrease from Wednesday, when the number of new confirmed cases jumped to 542.

Since the outbreak began in the state, there have been 126,863 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mass. Of those cases, 9,150 have been fatal, after DPH announced that 15 more people have died with confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

That number of new deaths is a slight decrease from Wednesday’s total of 17 new fatalities.

NH to ease six-foot distancing rule for indoor tables at restaurants, will still hold Halloween celebrations

Effective Oct. 1, New Hampshire officials will ease the six-foot distancing rule for restaurant tables indoors, so long as protective barriers are in place, Governor Chris Sununu announced on Thursday.

Officials also said that, as the weather gets cooler, they will be improving their restaurant guidance with revisions that have the buy-in of officials at Public Health and restaurant owners.

Sununu said in a press conference on Thursday that the numbers are are showing the state continues to present positive data for restaurants and businesses. The data shows that restaurants are not a source of widespread transmission.

The state of NH will also move forward with Halloween celebrations, with certain safety measures in place.

The state’s Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that there are 542 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth. That number is a large increase from Tuesday, where Massachusetts saw 143 new cases.

DPH reports 11 new COVID-19 deaths, 143 additional cases as positivity rate remains under 1%

The state’s Department of Public Health announced 11 new COVID-19 deaths and another 143 more cases on Tuesday, Sept. 22. For the third consecutive week, the average positive test rate has remained under 1%. The last time the positivity rate was above 1% was at the end of August.

As of Tuesday, 9, 135 more people were tested by molecular tests and 83 were tested by antibody tests. So far, 118,447 people have been tested for COVID-19 antibodies and 2,105,178 people have been tested by molecular tests. A total of 3,476,679 molecular tests have been administered since the outbreak began in the state.

The novel coronavirus has killed 9,118 people in Massachusetts and infected 125,866 since the spread began in mid-March.

On a national level, as of Tuesday, health officials confirmed a total of 200,000 lives have been lost to the COVID-19 pandemic. Research continues for several companies and laboratories across the country as the world races to develop a vaccine at an unprecedented rate.

DPH reports 8 new COVID-19 deaths, 168 more cases as positivity rate remains under 1% for 6th day in a row

State health officials on Tuesday reported eight more people in Massachusetts have died after contracting COVID-19 and another 168 have tested positive for the virus.

This marks the sixth day in a row where the average positive test rate has stayed under 1%. As the positivity average remains low, the number of cases and subsequent deaths are also starting to dip.

So far, a total of 1,876,973 people have been tested via molecular tests, where a total of 2,758,384 of these tests have been administered since the outbreak began in the state.

Currently, only two hospitals in the state are at surge capacity and 328 COVID-19 cases are currently hospitalized. As of Tuesday, 47 people infected with the novel coronavirus were in the ICU and 24 others are intubated.

With the drop in new deaths, the state’s 3-day average of COVID-19 fatalities has fallen to nine, the lowest average reported by DPH in a month.

Additionally, the state reported 354 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Mass. as of Tuesday. That number is an increase from Monday’s 301 new cases reported. In total, there have been 119,138 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the commonwealth, per DPH.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 21,654 new people have taken molecular tests for COVID-19 since their latest update. That means that, in total, 1,754,422 individuals in Mass. have taken a combined 2,448,341 molecular tests.

Also, the state announced that 269 new individuals have been administered antibody tests for COVID-19, pushing the total number of people in the commonwealth who have taken that type of test to 112,996.

State reports 11 deaths from COVID-19, 301 more infections as average number of confirmed cases continues to grow

On Monday, the Department of Public Health announced 11 new deaths from confirmed COVID-19 cases and another 301 additional infections in the state. Compared to recent health data, new coronavirus numbers shows more people have recently been infected.

As of Sunday, 18,740 more people were tested by molecular tests and another 124 were tested for antibodies. So far, 2,404,426 total molecular tests have been administered where 1,732,768 people have been tested in total. For antibodies, the count for total individuals tested to date is 112,727.

Currently, 314 people are hospitalized for the virus, where 56 are currently in the ICU and 22 are intubated. At this point in time, only one hospital in the state is at surge capacity. The average positive test rate remains at 1.0%.

Sunday, August 30

Positive-test rate drops to 0.9%, new monthly low

The state’s positive-test rate for COVID-19 dropped to below 1% for the first time this month, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported on Sunday afternoon. That positive-test rate now stands at 0.9%.

The state also reported 174 new confirmed cases of the virus as of Sunday, a big decrease from Saturday’s latest numbers that showed 421 new cases of COVID-19 in Mass. As of August 30, there were 118,483 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state.

Additionally, DPH reported that 13 new people have died while having COVID-19 in Massachusetts, a one-person increase from yesterday’s update of a dozen new deaths. In total, 8,816 people in the commonwealth have passed away while having confirmed cases of the coronavirus.

In an update to the state’s testing statistics, DPH reported that 16,594 new individuals have taken molecular tests for the virus in Mass. In total, 1,714,028 people in the state have taken a combined 2,372,564 molecular tests.

Also, 139 new people were administered antibody tests for the virus, DPH said. So far, 112,603 people have been administered that type of test for COVID-19 in Mass.

Saturday, August 29

Number of new deaths and cases see slight dip as positive-test rate remains at 1%

The state’s Department of Public Health announced on Saturday evening that Massachusetts’ positive-test rate for the COVID-19 virus remains at 1% for the fourth day in a row, a monthly low for August.

Additionally, Mass. DPH reported that 12 new people have died while having confirmed cases of COVID-19, a slight decrease from Friday’s latest total of 16 new deaths in the state. In total, 8,803 people in Massachusetts have died while having confirmed cases of the virus.

The state also reported 421 new cases of the coronavirus in Mass., another slight decrease from Friday, when 438 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the commonwealth. As of August 29, 118,309 people have confirmed cases of coronavirus in Mass.

The total number of COVID-19 hospitalizations fell for the third straight day Saturday, with 305 people now currently admitted for COVID-19-related reasons.

In an update to the state’s testing numbers, DPH reported that 23,882 new individuals have taken molecular tests for the virus in Mass. In total, 1,697,434 people in the state have taken a combined 2,339,669 molecular tests.

Also, 886 new people were administered antibody tests for the virus, DPH said. So far, 112,464 people have been administered that type of test for COVID-19 in Mass.

Friday, August 28

Sixteen deaths reported, cases still on the rise

There were 16 new deaths from confirmed COVID-19 cases on Friday as the state’s positive test rate for COVID-19 remained at 1 percent, the state Department of Public Health announced.

The Commonwealth also saw 438 new confirmed cases, up from 365 new confirmed cases reported Thursday.

Two hospitals in Massachusetts also reported using surge capacity.

To date, 9,024 people with confirmed and probable cases of the virus have died in the state.

Currently, 312 people remain hospitalized due to the virus; of these cases, 60 are currently in the intensive care unit and 26 patients are intubated.

Testing efforts have been gradually rising, with 23,716 more people tested for COVID-19 via molecular tests and 430 more people were tested for antibodies. Another 1,399 people were tested by antigen tests.
