BELLINGHAM, Mass. — More cities and towns in Massachusetts are ordering residents to wear masks in public or inside essential businesses, even issuing fines if residents don’t obey the rules.
Brookline is one of the communities where residents are required to wear masks when out in public and essential employees not covering up inside their business could be fined $50.
In Abington, residents 2-years-old an older must wear masks inside essential businesses, that includes employees and those business owners could face $100 fines if their employees don’t comply.
In Beverly, all essential business employees must wear masks inside their place of work and residents must wear them in residential or commercial building common spaces.
Starting April 27th, Bellingham residents older than 5 must wear masks inside public buildings, riding public transportation, inside essential businesses, that includes employees. Business owners could also face $100 fines if their employees don’t comply.
Bellingham resident Jane Cedrone said she’s been wearing a mask out in public for a while now.
“I’m trying to set an example and wear mine all the time,” said Cedrone.
Cedrone lives in a 55-and-older community and was concerned her neighbors wouldn’t be able to get their hands on any masks. She’s been making them herself with fabric she found in her attic and dispersing them in a creative way.
“I thought I would put them on the tree and spread the word and if you want the mask feel free to come to take them off the tree!” said Cedrone.
Cedrone has made well over 100 masks and will keep producing them to make sure all her neighbors feel as safe as she does.
“I like the feeling I have when I have it on, I like feeling protected," said Cedrone. "And if I can give that feeling to everybody, then that’s a good thing.”
