Boston Fire says the deck collapsed from the second floor to the first, with 10 to 15 people on the deck.
Four people were taken to the hospital, but their injuries weren't deemed to be life-threatening.
Inspectional Services said that the homeowner resides in New York and was contacted, and said there were roughly 15 people on the deck when the joists gave way.
The company said the owner was asked to hire an emergency board-up crew, replace railings and plywood, remove debris, and hire a licensed contractor to replace the deck.
Inspectional Services said that no further action from the city will be taken if the owner is cooperative.
