A former Merrimack College football star died after a shooting in Maryland, Baltimore County Police say.
Police said the shooting occurred Thursday night on Liberty Road in Baltimore, when an officer was directed by someone nearby to the victim lying down in a parking lot.
Police said the victim, identified as 27-year-old Artis Dewayne Holt, appeared to have suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Merrimack College football team posted on their Twitter account that they had "lost a dear member of our family," remembering Holt for his impact on everyone around him.
"Artis left a lasting impression on his teammates and coaches," the team wrote. "Special would not begin to describe what type of person he was. Defined what it means to be a 'Merrimack Guy.' Our thoughts and prayers are with the Holt family."
