Firefighters battle massive fire at apartment complex in Townsend

TOWNSEND, Mass. — Firefighters were battling a four-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Townsend on Monday night.

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. at the Pine Tree Estate Apartments at 48 Fitchburg Road.

Fire officials told Boston 25 News that it appears everyone made it out of the burning building.

Residents were forced to evacuate from the building, which appears to be a complete loss.

"We ran out," said one 10-year-old girl who lived in the building.

One resident told Boston 25 News that she lost four cats and a dog in the fire.

Huge flames and heavy smoke could be seen emanating from the building as the fire continued late into the evening.

"It's definitely scary and I feel sorry for everybody who lives there," said one man who lives nearby.
